No Bark Collar
 
I'm considering getting one of the no bark collars....NOT the one that shocks but the vibration and ultrasonic noise type.

Reason: Buddybear goes crazy in the car with the highest pitched yelping/barking you can imagine. I've had him in a crate, in a doggie car seat, loosely tethered in the car, and worst of all me holding him while I'm driving which is extremely dangerous! The longer he is in the car the more wound up he gets.
I refuse to drug him for driving in town.

How do you get your puppy to enjoy riding in the car??????
At home he is not much of a barker unless a dog barks on the tv or someone is at the door, which I can understand.

Help please!!!

If the car is his phobia, I am not sure that the collar would work. If he gets that wound up, he might not understand what the collar is meant to do. I would start by trying to desensitize him. Go out and get in the car for a mealtime maybe and then go back inside. Or go out and get in the car for a few minutes and then turn it off and go back inside without going anywhere. Any good behavior, reward and praise praise praise. Let him understand that the car can be a treasure trove of treats, praise and love and soon enough he will beat you to the car any time you try to go anywhere.

You could also try the Bark Genie, which you control...would be more intermittent, and plus you could concurrently use it while saying "no bark!" or whatever, so that he learns the command along w/ the beep.

He is excited to get in the car, not fearful. Most of his rides are to a grassy area next to the civic center and he gets beside himself with anticipation....that's as I read him but I may be wrong. The joys of sniffing grass and running through it are hard to control when he sees where we are he wants out before I can get the car keys and lock in up.
Patience is not in his dictionary.

I will look into that also as their are times when I do want him to bark.

I bought the Bark Genie from Amazon and the book that has been recommended on here several times, Yorkshire Terrier for Dummies.
I'll post the results after I receive it and use it for a week.

Suggestions on Bark Collars
 
I have a 5 month old yorkie that is only 5lbs. I need a suggestion on bark collars. I have read some good and bad reviews and wanted to get opinions of Yorkie owners of what you have used to stop your dog from barking. My Roxy barks at ppl walking behind our house on the side walk. We also have a 9yr old black lab.


Any suggestions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I use the elite little dog bark collar from petSafe. It works great. I will typically put it on him when I bring him to work with me. I would say that it took maybe 1 day. He knows when this collar is on, and he won't bark. Also works great when taking calls from home, and the mailman drives by.
