Hi my name is Janan Hi everyone , I have a teacup yorkie named CoCo and I'm totally in love , he's almost 2 years now ..was wondering if other members could advise me regarding wether I should remove ( around 10 teeth the vet told me ) is this necessary ??? I find it so harsh and he's so small ....what do you think ? :) |

Several points of concern for me..... Are these 10 permanent teeth or retained puppy teeth? How long is this tiny thing (how much does your "teacup" weigh?)going to be under anesthesia to have these teeth removed? What anesthesia is the vet going to be using on this baby? I also would be getting a second opinion..... |
That does sound excessive. Has he only been eating wet food or is there a medical reason to remove so many teeth? |
Getting a second opinion is always good but tinies are notorous for having dental problems and left unchecked it can lead to problems with the heart or other organs so if they tell you it needs done I wouldnt ignore it |

My Max is 2 years old and he just had 2 teeth removed. 10 seems excessive. |
For the right dog / situation, 10 may not be excessive at all. It seems a little young to have that many bad teeth at this age, but it's not unheard of especially in a very crowded mouth. It would be pretty rare for a vet to recommend removing HEALTHY teeth, unless the vet is totally unethical, ya know? Whatever you do, do it quickly as your little one may be in teeth pain, which can be excruciating and cause heart issues and appetite issues. |

I too. was wondering if they were puppy teeth, most Yorkies have to have at least some of the puppy teeth removed or there will be a double row of teeth and food accumulates between the rows and damages the adult teeth as well. Also, in general, smaller than average Yorkies, those under 4 pounds have more tooth problems. |
