What is wrong with some people? Yesterday on the news a couple from New York tied their little Pom to a flower stand and went inside to buy groceries. A lady patted the pup and picked out some flowers and went inside to buy them. When she came out she took the flowers and the Pom and walked away. The owner came out and started frantically looking for her dog. How sad for the little pup and the dumb owner leaving an expensive and certainly loved pet on the street for some thief to take. The camera was very clear and I hope that someone in the neighborhood recognizes the thief and turns her in. Would you ever in a million years leave you York unattended in front of a store? |
As bad as it sounds, I've heard a lot of ppl in NY do this. Maybe the owners feel with so many ppl around, thieves won't risk getting caught. Who knows... Personally, I wouldn't take the risk. |
My theory is: don't leave your kiddos (fur or skin) where you wouldn't leave a bag with every penny you have in the bank. My loved ones are the most important to me. I would rather lose a sack of cash!!!! Common sense. People want what other may have. So many people don't want to work to get if for themselves especially when it's put in their face, "Free for the taking." What an awful lesson to learn :( |
No, never! Tbh I have left my pup alone in the car once when picking up my son from school. But after my neighbors shih tzu was stolen from her yard, never again! I usually take a pup or two with me everywhere and they're well behaved in their carrier. If I know I'm stopping by a store that absolutely does not allow pets(i haven't patroned one yet that doesn't allow dogs who are contained/leashed) they would be left home. When out if I have to step in a store and I know a pup is in a bad mood my husband is right there to either go in the store for me or hold a pup. If all else fails, online shopping leaves many more options than an actual physical store. |
^^ This why my dad rides along with us everywhere. That way there is always at least one person with the dogs at all times. I won't even leave the dogs in the car while I run in to our P.O. Box, even though there is a wall of glass that gives me a clear view of them. I can't believe that the couple went into the store together and one of them didn't stay with the dog. I wouldn't leave any dog of any size tied up alone outside a store. In addition to dognapping -- people could feed the dog dangerous things, or someone could get hurt -- dogs or humans. |
I've seen this happen before. We used to go to this restaurant all the time in Belmont Shore which is a cute dog friendly neighborhood of Long Beach. (This is the same place that Lily my former foster ran out of the car and almost got hit and several residents helped us chase her down to get her back.) We were eating outside and a lady tied her tiny yorkie to a table and went inside. I was shocked so I went and stood by the pup with Uni and spent some time with him while the lady was inside. Although, in her defense, it was a tiny restaurant/fish market and the inside was only a few hundred square feet so she was like less than 6 feet away, but still. I've seen large dogs tied to posts before. I wouldn't approach a large dog for fear of getting bit so I would think most people would either or try to steal a large dog. |
On that tv show, "What Would You Do?" they played out a scenario of someone untying a little dog, people were sitting at outdoor café, and then quickly walking off with it...One couple was so awesome because he took off after 'dog thief' while she was calling police. The host of show intervened and questioned if couple knew dog owner, etc. They didn't (actors play owners and actor played thief), but said they could only imagine how devastated owners would be and the girl felt like the little dog would be devastated as well...Thank God for people who care and get involved. And nope, no can do, never will, ever put Piper in a vulnerable 'take-able' situation. She and I are in this for the long haul and in it together. |
I have left Magic tied up when we are hiking and I need to use the washroom. I bring Razzle in with me. Nobody is fool enough to come up to Magic and he would never willingly go with a stranger. I do and am as quick as I can be. |

I am formally from NY, I hate to leave my parked car for fear it would get stolen let alone leave a small dog tied outside. Absolutely insane, any NYer knows this cannot be done. I have more sadness for the little dog missing their momma, then I have for the dumb A@@ owner.I have to assume the person that took the dog thought the dog was abandoned and left the dog tied to a pole, this happens a lot in NY, owners know a tied up dog, especially if it's a small pedigree the dog will be taken I do hope someone can recognize the person from the camera and that baby is returned to their dumb A@@ owner.. |

This is a very sad story. But I think I posted once about a situation in Toronto now this is all hearsay so I don't know how accurate it is but near my vets clinic there is a coffee shop where folks often times leave their dogs out - and they get stolen ----- where to the dog fighting rings! Small dogs as bait and larger dogs they hope to train to the ring........... Disgusting!!! Magic would never suffer himself to be taken. But I would never leave Razzle out even with Magic - cause he could get trampled in the havoc my guard dog would do. |
Omg, I would NEVER do that! No way, no how. |
