Boarding and UTI question Hey everyone! So we went for a short 4th of July getaway for 3 days and we boarded our puppy at the petsmart pethotel. We picked him up today and I started noticing that he kept trying to pee and when he did he would pee like 3 drops. He keeps trying to pee but seems like he can't. I called the pet hotel and they assured me that he was going fine when he was there. He also got a bath before I picked him up so I'm very confused as to why or how he could have acquired a possible UTI infection. He is also acting more aggressive, I believe it's from being stressed of being away from us and in such a hectic environment. What do you believe it is? I am definitely taking him to the vet tomorrow if it continues but if it's lack of them not taking him out as much as they should have, I should take his vet bill to them shouldn't I? Thanks! |
Hello! Yes, it does sound like your pup has a UTI. I'm not sure how he could have acquired it through boarding especially since he's a male. Most UTI's occur in females from my experience. Was the boarding facility given instructions to wipe him after urination? I say take him to a different vet(NOT Petsmart) to get a diagnosis. If the vet verifies he does in fact have an UTI, take the correlating vet bill with you and speak with the store manager and see what can be done. Did you happen to get the name of the person you spoke with who stated he was urinating regularly? I hope your pup feels better soon, he's likely crabby due to the UTI(if he has one). They huuuuuuurt! |
I would definitely get him to the vet as soon as you can especially if he is unable to pee more then a drop or so because there could be a blockage. I'm guessing he just dosent feel good and is hurting. |
My puppy hasn't had this issue, but I have a cat that is prone to UTIs and if he is stressed he will get one. He actually used to be on meds to keep him from being stressed. I don't know if it could be the same in dogs or not, but thought I would mention that it could possibly have been the stress that caused the infection. |
Update on your puppy please! |
So I took him to the vet yesterday and he does not have a urinary infection thank god! BUT he does have this rare case in his weenie. So when the vet pulls it out to see it, it's supposed to stick straight out and it doesn't, it's held down by a piece of tissue, so that is probably what is causing him to have urinary issues. This afternoon he is scheduled to get the piece of tissue in the way, clipped, but he needs to be put under anesthesia because he's too "wiggly" to be able to do it just like that, and it could be very painful if he moves so vet feels most comfortable putting him under. I am so nervous. He's my little baby!!! But I know its going to be a quick procedure and that he is in good hands. |
