Okay Silly question. When you dog pants a lot from being outside did you ever notice that the tongue turns kinda blue. Not a dark blue. I swear my dogs tongue turns that color but my husband said it looks fine. When he is done panting it seems to be real pink again. Any one have this.

Maybe it's the lighting? I've never seen or heard of that either.

None of my dogs' tongues have ever turned blue from being outside and we're sometimes out for hours at a time or just coming in from our early morning run. Not to alarm you, but have you spoken with your vet about it? A blue tongue can be a sign of poorly oxygenated blood.

It could be something they got into...but I'd definitely see what your vet thinks

The picture when I am holding him looks like it is blue to me and then the other picture is when it looks normal to me.

He is such a cutie,putie. he he. When you are holding him it is not as easy for me,at least,to tell if it looks the same as the other normal one. It does look mostly pink to me though in the one where you are holding him. May-be just a slight hint of blue in his tongue but not even sure of that. Does that help any?

I just worry about him because he does the hack like the dog in the video since he was 4 months old so I know he has trachea problems. he will do that noise at least once a day. I did show the vet his tongue and she felt it did not look blue to her. She said as long as his gums look okay and they where pink. Thanks for every ones help.

I can see what you mean...it does look a touch purplish/blue rather than pure fleshy pink. When it happens, I'd check his gums to see if they are nice and pink and then when you press on them...do they turn white, but then turn back to pink nice and fast. I would try capturing a few different pics of it when the color is funny so that you can show the vet what you're seeing here.

I gotta say, he is just a BEAR CUB cutie, my gosh! So flippin cute. His fur texture looks just awesome too.

I have had 5 yorkies, all ran like the devil was after them, never saw any tinge of blue on their tongues. I will say, that is one adorable Little baby you have there.

He's so precious. I also see the difference. I've seen a tongue much bluer than that with three of my babies through the years, but two had issues with collapsing trachea and one with congestive heart failure. I've also seen the tongue look like that with exertion with my baby with the severe collapsing trachea. Still, it may be nothing at all, and I suspect your baby is just fine. I would do as Ann said and also try to take photos. My little Gracie's tongue and breathing was always pretty bad from the half hour trip in the car and the excitement of going to the vet, so it was easy for my vet to see without pictures.

Thanks everyone went to the vet today for his second lyme shot and the dr told me his tongue was not blue at all. She said it is not pink pink but she would not consider the color blue. She said as long as the gums don't turn blue not to worry. I saw other dogs in the waiting room with the same color as Sammie so maybe I just worry to much.

Oh it is terrible Russ, I worry about him all the time. Now every time he pants I am looking at his tongue!! My husband thinks I am nuts!! LOL
