Heatwave, hot yorkie... Hi, does anyone have any tips on how to keep my boy cool during a heatwave? We are currently having a heatwave with temps reaching 34 and living in London you could imagine how unbearable it is. My yorkie is 12 months old and constantly panting, and dont have much enegry. I gave him a cool bath yesterday which helped, is there any other way to keep him cool? He has access to water 24/7 and we've kept him inside during the peak of the heat only taking him out early in the morning and late afternoon. Thanks for reading lisa |
If you're comfortable with shaving that's what I did to my boy...he also loves laying under fans or in the air conditioner! Yea just try keeping him out of direct sun and giving him ice water should help a bit |
Some ppl are getting "kiddie pool" to help and have fun. |
I keep my boy in a short puppy clip, and yes kiddie pool if you have a yard for this. My yard is pretty shaded so out doors is not a prob. and he has his pool. If temps are 90 then I put on the A/C, but we still spend time outdoors, come in for 10 minutes or so, if he still wants out, then out we go. If you do not have A/C fans are good to. |
You can buy a cooling vest and/or a cooling towel... |
Thanks for the replies. He does have a shirt coat at the moment. We live in a apartment but I guess I could get a small paddling pool for the balcony, I did see another dog Ower with a spray bottle and she cooled her dog down like that so going to try that one :)) x |
1 Attachment(s) Whimsy will go in front of the fan. Winnie like the cooling mat... Moki is shaved. But I just make sure the fans are blowing good. If its really hot I have ac in the bedroom. Spray with a water bottle. Or wet them down in the tub, The like the pool also... Give them ice. Many ways but most important is make sure they are drinking plenty of water |
Along with a short clip. Wetting them down, like you did. Keeping them indoors. Pippi really suffers with the heat, so we bought cool pads, they work well. We gave treats, when ever they lay on them to begin with. This week we've been so grateful for them. We got them in different sizes. |
I have to keep my furbaby's coat fairly short in the summer, otherwise she'll pant and be uncomfortable. When her hair is a bit long and I can't get her to the groomers soon enough, I'll spray/douse some cool water on her to help her cool down. But I also have to be careful of making her too cold, or she'll start crying/whining ^^; |
