Our new puppy has started humping!!!!!! How do I nip this in the butt? Before he starts humping our yorkie Izzy!!!!! Ugh!!!!!!!!! :thumbdown

I have 3 Yorkies. Teek is 9 years old and I had never seen him hump anything. We bring home 2 puppies 6 weeks ago and Teek heads for the back of the couch to avoid them. After a couple weeks the puppies playing looks like fun. Teek starts following them around while they play. A week later he is humping them while they play. He humps their butts, sides, head. LOL

It is showing dominance at this young age for a puppy and I think Teek is trying to just play with them. The puppies hump each other too and sometimes try to hump Teek.

It is part of growing up and learning and also showing who is the dominant dog.

The best way to curb the behavior is distraction. Give them a toy to play with to distract them from the behavior.

lol, not unusual in a puppy, as JadedD suggested, when the humping starts distract wit a toy. I had baby girls that humped, they did this mostly when they were excited from playing. My older girl humped the new baby, but this was a bonding factor, the humping lasted a few weeks then the older one stopped. Sometimes it's a sign of dominance which is natural. In puppies it's usually just from the excitement of playing. Distract with toy or you can play with him to get his mind distracted.

I usually just calmly pick him up or move him. DH laughs and doesn't mind.

Wanted to add, neutering early "MAY" eliminate this, talk to your vet about this.

3 out of the 4 of my dogs hump, including our girl...and I don't bother stopping it; I mean, it's clearly fulfilling some sort of need/want of theirs and it's a natural thing, so I don't force them to stop. Granted, they only hump their "lover dog", and our girl just humps her donut bed (lol)...so it's no biggie. If they ever had tried to hump people, I would've stopped that angle of it.

Oh I wish i had an answer for you. I got my little guy fixed and he still humps!! At night I have to hide all the pillows, blankets, clothes, toys!! He is so adamant and he can do it for hours!! It drives me crazy.

I don't allow humping on people either. I also feel it is fulfilling a need, or just releasing some pent up excitement. As long as it doesn't last too long, and then I just say "Teek, that is enough." He usually stops at that point.

M only humps his bed and I don't stop him either. If I call his name and ask "what are you doing?..." he gives me that side eye glance and stops. LOL

Z TRIES to hump M but with the size difference... LOL She did manage to hump his head one time. One of the funniest thing I've seen. Looked like a jockey on a horse racing away. hahahahaha

Dogs learn how to hump from their owners. To stop a dog from humping you must stop humping yourself.

My teddy only humps my grandmas outdoor cat...got him neutered and he won't stop
