Warning: Xylitol in sports cooling clothing, icefil technology I was looking for a light hoodie with spf and the description on one says it has xyitol in it for a cooling effect. Xylitol is extremely toxic to dogs, I tried looking up the effects of xyitol fabric on dogs but all I could find is we don't know. This is the hoodie ExOfficio Women's Sol Cool Hoodie | DICK'S Sporting Goods I also looked at the shirt on rei and amazon and they didn't mention xyitol. I looked up icefil technology and that always means xylitol. This website gets into how different sports fabrics work Apparel | Technology I can't believe this  |
Good info to have! I bought a cooling mat for Bella, but I saw her act like she wanted to chew it so I took it up and won't be trying it again. |
Strange! I wonder if a dog licks the fabric if it would be toxic. Definitely best to avoid. I have one pair of sweat pants made of fabric that is supposed to draw moisture away. My skin always has a burning sensation when I wear them. Makes me think this stuff isn't good for any of us. |

I need to get something to block the sun, I have PMLE (sun allergy) and I don't want to wear sunblock everyday, especially because I'm afraid of it hurting Lola. |

I understand your predicament. My boys always want to lick my skin when I use lotion. |
Just purchased a gel pad on-line (@$14); it does not require anything except pressure to cool. The inside is water, glycerol, and polyacrylamide--and the outside is terylene and cotton. It's rather soft and not at all 'crinkly' or stiff. I got it for Piper to use in the car when we do short jaunts; lemme tell ya...it works! Since Piper still wanted to rest on my leg, I just laid pad over me and set her on pad and we both enjoyed a cooler, more comfortable ride home. As with other items (chews, etc), the pad is not left out. So far I'm very pleased. |

The shirt I posted about blocks the sun and uses xylitol to keep you cool, xylitol is extremly toxic to dogs. |
I truly appreciate the warning and information; the more we know, the safer our little ones. Thank you again for timely information, cuz you can bet I checked the tag on that gel pad as soon as I read your post! I was merely tossin' out another/different cooling method... |

The reason I came across that shirt is I'm allergic to the sun (PMLE), I break out in an itchy rash on my face, neck, arms, shoulders, and chest. I wanted the shirt to block the sun, the cooling part would have been a plus but not necessary. |
Oh my, bless your heart...I got sun poisoning once while on vaca in Florida and it was brutal, so I can only imagine what you suffer. My dad, a dairy farmer, wore long-sleeved white dress shirts during summers (Mom picked-up at rummage sales) because he stayed cooled while covered. Take good care and stay well-covered and thanks again for always useful info! |
