Not everyone who owns a Yorkie loves them like we do? I realized something today. Not everyone who owns a Yorkie loves them the way we do. Right after I brought Teek home I saw a man walking a tiny Yorkie right up the street from our house. I ran out to meet this Yorkie and he would not even talk to me. He was so rude and picked up the dog and crossed the street. Today a lady had a Yorkie at the mall in town and I went over to see if I could pet it, which she let me. I told her I had 3 Yorkies, to which she ignored me. How can anyone own these wonderful babies and not want to talk about them? Not want to share them? I understand that some dogs are not friendly. I did ask if hers was friendly and she said yes and that I could pet them, but wow, she did not want to have a conversation with me about Yorkies. No wonder I like it here so much, people here actually like our Yorkies and like to talk about them to other people. I walked my "Yorkie Parade" up our block (all 3 Yorkies) and we had to stop 3 times to talk to people who wanted to know about them. I am happy to share my Yorkies with people and let people pet them. My goal is to have super friendly Yorkies, so I like people to pet mine. I didn't realize anyone could own a Yorkie and not want to at least talk about Yorkies. |
Some people are jerks no matter what breed they own. |

I am not even sure she liked her Yorkie that much! LOL The guy definitely didn't see to like the Yorkie puppy he was walking (it was probably his wife's dog). |
I know what you mean...when I see other yorkies, I just want to talk about them but not everyone is passionate about yorkies like we are. |
Maybe you encountered these people at a bad time. I've encountered other Yorkie people at inopportune times and I'm afraid that I came across as abrupt. Normally I love talking dogs and meeting other Yorkies, but sometimes I'm in a hurry (running errands) or my dogs are a little worked up after waiting all day for their outing. The man who knocked on my car window at the grocery store scared me and it took a minute for me to realize that he was trying to show me his Yorkie. :D Meanwhile, my Yorkies were barking their heads off in the back seat. |
I thought of another instance: an SUV came speeding across the Lowe's parking lot at me while I was walking the boys. Scared me until the window rolled down and the couple inside proudly held up their little Yorkie. :D Sometimes I take a minute to get over my surprise. |
I don't know anybody who owns yorkies sadly! The lady who gave me him talked for hours to ensure I take care of him properly and give him the love he deserves before she would let me take him. The other day an old man stopped me and asked to pet him so I warned he's known to bite occasionally but not common so he proceeded and petted and told me all about his little baby! It's so sweet when I meet people who care and then there's a lady I meet at the pet store a week after I got him and rolled her eyes and said good luck with him :( |
Well, if you ever meet me, you will see someone who loves to talk about Yorkies and I love to hear about yours and talk about mine! I realize some people are busy, but I love to meet other Yorkie owners. When I got Teek there were 2 other Yorkies on our block, but one died and one was hit by a car (also died). Now I have the only 3 on the block that I know of. I am sure at least one lives in the apartments next to us, but I never see it except that one time when the guy wouldn't even let me near it, and I am not sure he actually lived there. There are lots of Yorkies in my town, but I don't know many of the owners. I should start a Yorkie club here! |
I sometimes have the urge to drive over to the lady I got him from just so I can talk about him lol I'm one of those doggy moms who can gossip with your for hours about my baby! |
I am sorry you had a bad experience. I can think of many reasons why 'some' people might not be 'chatty' at a particular moment about Yorkies, especially with a stranger...some bad, some good, and some completely understandable and forgivable. Here, we mostly 'do' like Yorkies...it's part of why we are here...LOL Try not to take it to heart too much. I prefer to think the odds are good that the majority of those who have Yorkies do absolutely love them and enjoy talking to others about them, even with strangers, and most of the time, even if only for whatever few moments they can spare from their busy day. Hugs |

If someone talks to me about Callie I can't shut up lol |
I haven't encountered anyone with a Yorkie not wanting to talk about them. That's pretty weird. I hope these people are good to their dogs... There are Yorkie meetups. I attended a couple when we lived in MA. Here we have just been going to the dog park. |
