Collar 1 Attachment(s) We bought Bella a herness collar so that the neck collar didn't yank on her little neck. However, she scratches that thing constantly and has worn down the material to fuzzies in two weeks. I always take her out on the leach to make sure she stays with me. Could the harness collar wear down her coat? Should I remove it between potty times? Do any of you use this type of collar? Thanks, Michele |
Hi! Sweetie always matts up, especially on her legs, from her harness. I just ordered a harness vest that attaches on with strong velcro (easier to get off & on than her regular harness). I'll let you know how it works.... harnesses are definatly the way to go with yorkies as their little throats just will not handle the stress of a collar :eek: . Good luck with your babie! Cyndi |
I currently use nylon harness on Mason but lately I've been noticing that after our walks, his skin gets so red from the friction of the nylon against his skin/coat. I have not tried the vest harness, but I recently purchased a step-in-harness and leash (in one) that you can just put your dog's feet into, pull up the harness, tighten at the back, and that's it. No buckles or belts. I saw someone using it on her dog one day in the park and it looked so easy to use and so convenient (it slip right on and off). FYI: The harness I have found I like the best for smaller yorkies especially is www.buddybeltcollars.com. They are leather so they are surdy, not bulky and designed to fit to the body. I use this harness almost exclusively for my yorkies but I don't leave it on in the house. The others I have purchased were bulky, uncomfortable and ill fitting. |
Schatzie has always used harness type collars when we are out in public. She has never had any matts or rubbed raw spots. I think the key is NOT to have it too tight. |
I think this buddy harness is the answer for my little guy, HE WILL NOT, under any circumstance let me slide the cat harness over his head, this looks easy, just put their two front legs in, I think I can accomplish this one. Thanks for the link. |

I got the harness vest (or I will have it when it gets here) on my other favorite website - eBay! Just put harness vest in the search on dog apparel and you should find 'em. They had some really cute ones for little boys and girls - and the lady I got mine from custom makes them for each dog (oops! Did I say the "D" word???!!!). Happy hunting! :animal-sm Cyndi |
Harness We use a harness on both of our girls and at first they scratched and scratched, but over time they got use to them. We have had no matting around the harness and they wear them day and night. We do check them daily for tightness and keep them loose enough to put two/three fingers under the harness.....lately it seems we are adjusting them alot as they are both still growing! |
