Do you get pain meds after a dental? Teddy Bear will be getting another dental cleaning next month. I suspect he may need some loose front teeth pulled. He will also be getting a cyst taken off of his face. He has never been given given pain pills in the past but I have always wondered if he should be getting them after a dental. I was wondering if other vets send pain pills home with your pup's after a dental? I will be asking for them this time if she doesn't give them to me. |
Depending on what was done, pain meds (ask for liquid) and anti-biotics. |
Not after just a cleaning, but definitely for having teeth pulled...at least that's my preference. :) |
When Callie had an extraction yes but without an extraction no. |
Thank you for the replies. Teddy always looks so miserable when he comes home after a dental. I was always wondering if he is in pain. He is usually really groggy and whiny. I feel so miserable watching him, he seems worried and scared. I am glad to know that he probably doesn't need the pain pills. |
My vet who is a dentist hasn't put my my dogs on antibiotics after extractions. Winston had 10 teeth pulled and didn't need antibiotics. |
Mikki lost 4 teeth her last dental. My vet did give her pain meds. |
Reese had her dental last month. She had one tooth pulled and sent her home with pain meds and antibiotics. She was tired for a few days but then back to normal. I tried to just leave her alone but she looked so sad I wanted to be near her all the time haha. |
Teddy's gums looked red, I'm wondering if he needs antibiotics before his dental? I'm sure his vet will let me know. His blood pressure and kidney readings were a bit high so he is on blood pressure meds to bring it down. His dental is scheduled for Jul 14. The vet is going to see him next week to see how he is doing. Hopefully everything will be ok for his dental next month. |
We don't get pain meds after cleaning, but for extractions my vet sends home prefilled syringes of pain meds for three days + antibiotics |
