Skipping meals 6 month old male will not eat some meals. He's a grazer and takes forever. I've done the ten minute rule and the next meal is the same way, no interest and then all of a sudden he will gobble a meal up in seconds. I can not free feed as I have a diabetic Aussie Terrier and can't take a chance on him sneaking Buster's food. I feed him by the Science Diet puppy formula instructions for his weight. I know he's in that adolescent gangly stage but he is quite skinny. Vet says he's fine but I'm the Mom and Mom's know best. Question, Do Yorkies always get fed 2x a day? Do I need to fill in with Nutracal at six months if he skips a meal? Will this struggle end? Thanks for any answers and tips in advance. Buster's Mom |
Good Morning! Yes, some yorkies just graze. My youngest pups did that until they got a bite of another food now they are little piggies. Do you think he may not like the food much? You could use the nutra supplement if you choose, but the main thing should be finding a food he'll eat enthusiastically and not use the supplement as a crutch and use it only in emergencies. How big is he and what is his ideal weight according to you and your vet? |
Just in the last few weeks, Piper isn't finishing her meals (Nat'l Nutro with bits of chicken and broth--heated). She gets one small meal in the morning, another at night. I asked vet about her refusing to finish or sometimes just not eat and she said it may be the heat or that Piper was just bored with her food. I haven't made any changes, yet, but would love suggestions as to what I might pick-up instead of Nat'l Nutro. Also, my little con artist, drama diva, manipulator (and I wouldn't change a gosh darn thing about my perfect little Piper) has decided USA Chicken Jerky would be a good supplement/replacement to her regular meals (ummm, noooooo!!!!) Arrrgghhh, these little ones are totally relentless, determined and beyond adorable in their effort/antics to get what they want, yes?! |

Lol, one of my best friends moms was Italian and always swore I wasn't eating enough. I feed Primal Freeze Dried and they devour it, idk how you feel about raw though. Also, sprinkling parmesan cheese can entice them to eat more. I did the parm thing for awhile and it works very well. |
I feel your struggle. 1 week ago I was at my wits end because Colby refused to eat. I tried different wet mixed in with his kibble. I only get by-product free so it was difficult to find that many wet foods to begin with. I tried the Parmesan cheese and after a couple of days he turned his nose at that as well. I ended up completely switching his food. Natural fresh pet stuff. He seems to eat better now. I have to feed him three times a day because 4 month old Colby would rather play than eat his breakfast. He'll eat a couple of bites and the he's off. I feel your pain. |
