New Mill survivor Hello, I am a newbie to the site and a newbie yorkie owner. My little girl is around 4 years old, was in deplorable shape. She has been vetted, finishing up antibiotics for pneumonia. She has an insatiable appetite now and is starting to be active. I am very encouraged by how well she is adjusting to her new home but I am concerned that I am missing something important for her rehab to a "normal" home. Any words of wisdom will be much appreciated! |
It sounds like you are doing everything right, since she is starting to be more social just give her lots of love & attention |
thank you! I sure hope so...she has lived in a dark world and now love and attention surrounds her. Goofy, maybe, but she seems to say thank you with her eyes at times...I never want to betray that trust :) |
Welcome!😀 |

Welcome to YT! What a wonderful thing you did, to rescue a mill furbaby. I hate to think about those poor babies shut up in kennels all day long, just to have litter after litter of puppies. Thank you for what you did. I know your baby will have a fantastic life with you, just from what you have posted on here so far. |
Welcome :) |
Hi welcome to Yorkietalk :) |
Dear Lilbit123, I think your new baby is 'thanking you with her eyes'. No doubt about it. You saved her from a life in a cage to a home with love and care and she knows it and is so happy and grateful to her new mom. Good for you. Welcome to YT. |
It sounds like you are doing great! Its so awesome you rescued her. |
It sounds like you are doing a wonderful job! I think it just takes awhile. Our Dixie was in the same shape as a puppymill mama. It took her about 9 months to figure out how to play with a toy and I started crying when it happened. She went from starvation 4 lbs. to a health 6 lbs. I know that developmentally she did not get the regular puppy stuff and I blame all her oddities on humans. Anyway, thank you for adopting her. Hugs. |

Welcome to YT, thank you for rescuing this little girl. Sounds like what ever you are doing is working, so keep it up. Lots of phrase and love works wonders. Maybe working on training her basic commands, sit, stay, lie down, just basic for starters, make them 5 minutes training sessions through out the day, teach one command first, when she learns that one move on to a new command. Reward and praise when she gets it right, lots of patience and short sessions, training helps build her bond with you. She has come from a caged dark world into a world that is now filled with sunshine and love, this can be over whelming for some dogs, take things slow with her, but sounds like what ever you are doing, is working. Bless you for saving this little girl. |
I truly believe that dogs can have gratitude and know when they are in a loving environment. You will get to watch your girl blossom into the fun loving affectionate little dog she was put on this earth to be. Thank you for rescuing her and providing her with that loving home! |
