Walk it out
 
I brought up the subject about my daughters 1yr old Yorkie that walks in circles all the time. Up to 5 minutes at a time. Sh does this about 10x a day. I found this video of Chloe on her FB page to give u guys an idea of what I'm talking about.

Does she circle and then lay down? I've seen dogs do that.

Does she always do the circling by the door?

This does not look like behavior caused by a neuro/physical problem. Looks like a signal that she may need to potty or is simply anxious for your daughter to return.

Has she always done this or is this something new??? If it is something new I would say she needs to be checked out by the Vet as there are several medical conditions that could possibly be causing this.


If she has always done this, maybe it could be her normal behavior.

I had a Rescue we adopted that did circle all the time, but that was because she was kept in a small cage all the time and used for breeding for 8 yrs before I adopted her. It took over a year to finally stop.

I agree. Now that I've seen the video, it looks like she is alert and looking around as she circles near the door, as though she is waiting for someone. Of course, I could be wrong...

No she just circles in any spot in the house then walks away

Noramlly I would think that too. She just so happens to be near the door THIS time. But she does it anywhere, even outside then sons just walk away. She's also extremly hyper. But so is my Yoorkie...lol I just never seen this behavior to this extreme. My step daughter thinks nothing is wrong. Says she's been doing it since about 6 months old.

She says shes been doing it since about 6 months. And she does cage her from time to time. That's what I actually think it's from. But she claims that she rearly does. And she says she barks an awful lot. But I kept her for 3 days and she barked almost never. I hate to say it, but I think it's her environment because other than the circling, after about a few hours she was the sweetes doggy. Hated to let her go home. I just think at this age the only time she should be caged is if she's bringing in groceries so that she want run away. But I'm going to let her read this feed back and hopefully she make some changes to better her behavior. Oh and she's also bites ppl and other dogs. But was a total diff pup at my house

She does it anywhere and my daughter was recording the video so she wasn't waiting for her.

I see. As Phil wrote, she looks alert when she is doing it. That is why I would lean toward this being a behavioral thing rather than caused by a health problem.

To test for neurological problems next time the dog walks in circle try to call him over to where you're at. If the dog can't break the circle then it's a neurological issue. Could also be an ear infection or head trauma. This is not normal behavior if the dog isn't trying to give you a signal that it needs to relieve itself. Last advice, take the dog to the vet and get a check up.

Pacing is also one of the symptoms of liver problems. It was the main thing that alerted us to Bella's shunt. Might consider a liver BAT if it doesn't go away or gets worse.
