Peeing on my rugs! UGGGGGGGGGGGH!:mad::mad: Every time I clean the rugs I find new pee spots. Cali doesn't make any sounds or indications that she needs to go out besides staring, so I have no doubt that the peeing is happening in the evening time when the living room is dim and we are watching tv/working on the computers. I am just so frustrated with this! We take her out frequently, but at 4lbs maybe she is needing to go out more often?? How do I train her to verbalize (lol) what she needs vs. just staring? |
Honestly, it is on us as owners to figure that out. Watch her and try to figure out when is her "time to go". Take them outside more and praise praise praise when she gets it right. Also keep an eye on her when she thinks you may not be. Try to find the triggers and the amount of time after eating or drinking when it seems to occur. Sooner or later the two of you will have it figured out and it will get better. Also, it never hurts to remember that for whatever reason, this breed is notorious for being hard headed when it comes to potty training. |

You kinda have to go back to the basics if you want her trained. In other words, she needs to be right with you (tethered to you if needed) so you can see her cues and act. She shouldn't have access to those rugs either...for now. |
I made it real easy for myself and let them use pee pads ...no rugs in my house |
How old is Cali and how long has it been going on? It just may be that she is drinking more now that it is summer. |
Vote for the pee pad here. But have you given thought to bell training? |

My 3 are all pee pad trained and do very well with the exception of the occasional potty on a throw rug. I don't scold, just throw it in the washer. I think to them a throw rug on the floor looks exactly like a pee pad. |
I've never trained a dog to ring a bell, but I've heard people post how they did it and that it works great. They just hung a bell on the door, low enough for the dog to reach. Every time they took the dog out they rang the bell. Before long the dog was ringing the bell, and they took it out EVERY time. For awhile they would ring it just to go out and play, but that didn't last long. |
Which kind of bell? Teacher 's desk bell???....I want my Yorkies to learn that trick....:) |
From what I've heard, it's more like Christmas bells that you hang on your doorknob. |
Dealing with the same thing from Joni. She uses pee pads in the house regularly, but she also uses any other type of rug as well. So aside from blocking off rooms she not allowed in (carpeted bedrooms), I no longer leave bath mats on the floor in the bathroom. My big problem (warning: disgusting) is the nice rug under the dining room table. I keep pee pads in that room but I just 'know' if she either misses or dribbles to the side. It's a dark rug so no noticeable stain - just a squishy feel at times. Ugh, I don't want to know!!! |
I think sampsongc is right - any rug looks like a pee pad to them! |
