Why is my dog such a BULLY??!!
 

Austin is 1 and a half years old and not neutered. We also have a 9 year old lab, Jake, that is as sweet as can be (he is neutered). They have been "brothers" since Austin was practically born and best of friends. However, for the last 2 months or so Austin sits at their doggy door inside the house and refuses to let Jake inside. Its so sad! Jake sits outside crying wanting to come inside and when he attempts to come inside, Austin becomes a "gremlin" and literally attacks Jake! He does this AWFUL growl and goes for Jakes throat and HANGS on!! He does this every single day! What in the world is going on??!! Why is he suddenly such a bully??!!

I am guessing the answer is in your first sentence.
 

LOL, testosterone is a marvelous thing! Is it possible to let them out one at a time?

Wow! Quick reply! Here is the thing...they have a doggy door. Without it, Austin will potty inside. So, no we can't let them out one at a time. Between the two of them, the doggy door is swinging back and forth every 5 minutes! To go potty, to "discover" things in the back yard, to bark at strange noises, just about everything! We are in Texas and have beautiful weather and both of them like being outside and inside. Austin just refuses to allow Jake to come inside. The doggy door is clear so they just sit and stare at eachother, like a doggy show down!

i have 2 female yorkies and a male yorkie. my male yorkie fights my girls. he won't let them eat and if my girls are playing he attacks them and it's a great big fighting match. it scares me to death. he takes more aggression out on one of my girls more than the other. i don't know what the problem is either. both my girls came in heat a week apart and he only wanted the one. the other girl that he is meaner to, he wanted nothing to do with her. i'd like to know what to do about this too :aimeeyork

That's crazy! LOL it's definitely not about size, that's for sure! These little guys are tough as nails!

One, you shouldn't allow this to continue. Your teeny furbaby is trying to be alpha dog, which is fine to an extent. One will ALWAYS have to be alpha. it's just how it works. But when you witness your little one attacking your lab like that, you need to be the parent and discipline him for it. Tell him no firmly. If you see him watch Jake come in the doggie door and he doesn't go to attack him, praise him for being good. But I would definately not allow it to continue.

I need the same advice you need. Lily does the same thing. So I am also anxiously awaiting an answer to your question.

My little 8-week old Yorkie met my 21-pound Bichon and has driven him crazy every since. His favorite thing to do is latch on to one of the Bichon's ears and stay there as long as he can -- with the Bichon dragging him around the house.

He also eats all the Bichon's food. He eats the Bichon's first and then goes back to eat his own.

My Yorkie is not aggressive at all -- he just drives the other dog crazy playing with him all the time. My Bichon does play back with him for a couple hours every day (mostly in the evenings). They run all over and play very heartily. But who wants to play 24 hours a day. I can hear my Bichon sigh and say, "Thank God" when Yorkie boy settles down for a nap.

My Bichon is sweet and shy and has deferred to the Yorkie every since the first day the Yorkie was here. I can honestly say that they have become fast friends -- but who can keep up with the energy of a pup!

These little terriers certainly "rule the roost." They are tough, playful, strong-willed little guys.

PS - It's interesting that so many people are afraid to put them with a larger dog when it's really the larger dog that we often need to worry about and feel sorry for.

I agree you should nip this in the bud!

Maybe post on the training forum so that some trainers can give you more advice.

Thanks everybody! I agree that he is attempting to be the alpha dog. He eats the lab's food as well, and growls at him when he gets "lovings" from me. Poor Jakey!! I am going to post this on the other thread, THANKS AGAIN EVERYBODY! :)

Okay, now this is a little bit funny. Austin is so smart! We realized that he also tricking our lab to go outside. He pretends to hear a noise and start barking and runs outside. Then, (musical noise) dun dada dun!!! Jake to the rescue! He runs outside behind Austin prepared to defend the house and then, wham!, Austin turns around in a flash and comes back inside and won't let Jake back in! How inventive is that??!!?? (even though I know it's wrong, this is kinda funny!) :rolleyes:
