Petco accidentally kills dog... Wow. |
What a nightmare. I feel so badly for the woman. |
Omg that's terrible. |
I never recommend this grooming service to anyone....I have heard of too many dogs getting hung, left in dryers, severe cuts, injured legs/hips, escaped into a parking lot, etc..... |
OMG how tragic, that poor owner. I have never used a commercial or ever thought of using a commercial groomer just for this reason, sheer carelessness. Just very very tragic for this family. If that had been my dog I think I would have been removed from that store or hospital in hand cuffs. |
That is so devastating and should never have happened!!! |
What the h*#@ is wrong with people?! How do you "forget" a dog---it's what they do!! Completely excusable!!!! This horrific mistake could likely spell the end of grooming at PetCos. I mean, who in their right mind would ever chance leaving their canine at any PetCo after this...? My heart aches for the tragedy this lovely woman now faces. |
I don't know if it is but it should be criminal. The groomer who did this should face more severe consequences than just being suspended. |
I would of left out of there in handcuffs...... plain and simple!!!!!! |

My second issue is those type of dryers....when I was using a groomer, they used hand blowers.....that should be something people look for when using a groomer....do they use a hand blow dryer? |
What I don't understand is wasn't there anyone else in there grooming dogs to see that there was a dog unattended? I am so angry and hurt for the woman and I hope she gets satisfaction of some kind from this. Such a beautiful animal and I can see how the woman's heart is breaking. |
The groomers at my Petco seem okay but after reading this and other related stories I don't think I could ever take my little guy there. However, there are bad private groomers, too. We had to switch last summer after one flipped out on us for leaving him there 15 minutes too long (she was supposed to call us when he was done). She seemed OK the first few times he was there but I felt really uncomfortable after the incident. My Yorkie would never take treats from her but is more than happy to accept a snack from our current groomer. |
My babies adore the groomer I ended up taking them to, after the groomer I had been taking them to, obviously almost drowned my itty bitty Bunper under the running water....he was absolutely terrified of running water in the house from that day on, and he snuffled and sniffed and snorted like he had water in his lungs for months and months after that visit to the groomer. The groomer I currently use, when I do have a professional job done, loves all her dogs/clients.....and the dogs LOVE being there with her...they will litterally jump from your arms into hers when you arrive! Your babies will tell you if they love their grooming session and their groomer! |
How positively horrid and sad! |
I feel simply dreadful for this woman. I can't believe that someone could forget they put a dog in a dryer and if they did, that no one else working there notice the dog in there. Saying that, I took my dachshund to Petco for a shampoo once because I had never taken her to a groomer and wanted to see what it was like. I sat there for most of the time she was getting groomed. Thank goodness she had a very nice girl that took care of her. The other two people that were working there were so nasty and mean to the dogs they were grooming, that I swore I would never go back there or let anyone else go there if they were thinking of it. |

 That is the exact criteria I started with when seeking a groomer for Teddy. The Crufts groomer who has her own very busy grooming service refused to use them and the mobile groomer refuses to use them. If they even offered these dryer types as options, I would find another groomer. |
The dog had to have been left in there for hours for it to have gotten that bad! 105 degrees even after passing?! |
That was not an ACCIDENT- that was blatant NEGLECT! |
Now Petco is stating that they never use heat in their cage dryers. How come the dogs temperature was so high hours after it's death. "As a result, the individuals directly involved are no longer part of our company,” Petco said in a Thursday statement. “While we’ve confirmed that no heat was used, and is not used in any of our grooming salon dryers, as an additional measure, the type of kennel dryer Colby was housed in has been removed from service in all Petco stores.” |

I do not believe them! I have seem the Drying Cages myself at the local Petsmart so I know there use is common. |
