OMG...Dixie is sooooo spoiled! 😕 Don't get me wrong...my new little one is adorable. However, she is spoiled rotten. She only wants to eat boiled chicken, she attacks like a little hellion if Bonnie tries to take her toy and she cries if I leave the room and if I'm in the room, she thinks she should be in my lap. The breeder says this started because she had a bad reaction to her first set of shots and was quite sick. To keep her blood sure up, she was giving her homemade food which included boiled chicken. She also kept her close by for monitoring. After she got better, she didn't transition back to her regular food. As for the attack mode, she was the smallest in her litter and spent several hours a day with another litter playing. She learned to stick up for herself but she doesn't really need that here. Bonnie just looks at her like she's crazy and then looks at me. She had her first Well-Puppy visit yesterday the vet said she looks good overall but is a little underweight but not enough that she's too concerned. She seems to have a little bit of allergies going on but that also doesn't appear a serious concern. I can get the aggression part handled and she will learn not to cry when I leave the room. The biggest issue is to get her eating regular food again. She's too small to just wait until she's hungry enough. I tried the Parmesan on her food and she sniffed it like crazy, but no takers. Any ideas on getting her back on regular food? |
I had a problem with one of mine not eating for a while and I moistened her kibble with bone broth. I got the recipe on YT. She gobbled up her kibble and wanted more. Hope you can find the answer to get her to eat her kibble. |
How is Dixie doing now? I agree with you that her eating is of most importance to get some weight on her. I was wondering, did the breeder tell you about her start in life and all that you mentioned in your post here? Hoping she is settling in well. |
Dixie is doing better...she is still finicky but she's beginning to eat her kibble on her own. I think she will slowly make a complete switch. And yes, the breeder and I talked almost every day when Dixie had the problem with the vaccine. She wanted to make sure I knew and that I took precautions when getting future vaccines for her. She also told me if I was worried about vaccines being a problem, I could choose another puppy. She has a health guarantee, so if there are any future problems she will be there for me and Dixie. |
I should mention she has gained 2 oz. since I got her on Sat. So I think she's getting enough to eat 😀 |
Wonderful! Dixie is home and already spoiled - sounds pretty normal to me!!! lol - Who can't not spoil these sassy little puffballs when they are just tiny little toots, demanding their way or the highway? Not me! And not most of their owner/guardian/slaves can either! I hope Dixie brings you all the joy and happiness you so desperately need in your life right now and becomes your new best friend, fitting right in beside Bonnie and both totally owning your heart. Nothing in the world helps during times of stress, life changes and pain as a dog, though they sure are a big job during puppyhood! You've bitten off quite a big bite and no doubt there'll be times when you wonder if you can make it - especially the first few weeks - but holler out for help if you need it and enjoy that new baby right down to the tips of her tiny terrier toes! You've earned a reward, something to make you smile and now you've got it - little Miss Dixie. We'd all love pictures the moment you can manage! Can't wait to see this little heart-stealer of yours. Take care and post about all the cute things she does when you get a chance. :) |
She is an awesome little bundle! I've noticed she is VERY coordinated for her age. She sits up on her back legs to see things she wants. She also doesn't just change directions when playing. Instead, she hops up in the air and turns a full 180 to go the opposite direction. It's hysterical! Also, Bonnie has always wanted a cuddle mate and Dixie loves to cuddle with her. Soooo much fun! I posted pics on another thread but here's a link. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/8i7vs6r45...l7Gpd2yka?dl=0 She's soooo worth the wait😍 |
