Spring Time Allergies Does anyone have a dog with allergies in the Spring. I did not have my dog last Spring but I noticed now the winter is over he has runny eyes and sneezes and rubs his face on the floor and does that fast hack a lot more now that Spring is here. In the winter he hacked like once a month. Now everyday. What are you dogs symptoms in the Spring./Summer. Thanks |
I would talk to your vet about it. Both of mine were having issues and had to go on Zyrtec once a day. |
Thanks Lovetodream. What symptoms where they having and did the medicine work for them? |

Yes, Teddy has allergies. He is especially allergic to grass when it is freshly mown. His eyes go all squinty and watery and he itches them by rubbing them against his feet! |
Sakura has horrible allergies that are almost year round. She does so much better in winter than any other season. She will lick and bite her poor feet till they are all scabbed up. Her vet told me to giver her infant's benadryl but that was making her throw up so she prescribed Vetadryl. She is doing great on it. It the dog version of benadryl but it doesn't make her droopy or throw up. She gets one pill everyday and I can tell she feels so much better while taking them. Axel has some kind of allergy that we haven't been able to figure out. His is just runny eyes constantly all year. He does the hacking bit every once and a while when he is outside too. We tried the vetadryl for him too but did not help him at all. So I just try to keep his stinky face clean for now. |
2 of mine have almost year-round allergies, so I feel your pain. What do you mean by "hacking" - do you mean vomiting every day? Or do you mean like coughing/gagging? To me, these allergies are affecting your kiddo's quality of life and I'd be looking into meds for him so he can get relief. He is not vomitting it is his usual hack noise he makes since I got him but he does it everyday now that the Spring is here. I talked to the vet and she said to try Claritin. She does not want to put him on anything stronger because he is not losing hair or does not have a rash |
