I Am Really Getting Worried Now! Ruby is now ten months. She has had her first heat since early december (wish I could remember the exact date) and it still is going. Her vagina is not swollen almost at all now but she is still bleeding. It was my understanding that the heat lasted only 23 days. I do know for sure though it has been longer than that now. I t has been a month if not more since its going on. Should I be concerned or do they sometimes have longer heat periods. I am getting really worried now and I don't want to take her to the vet just for anything. I have a tendancy to do so for every little thing. They know me by memory now. Any help would be appreciated. |
JMO, I would post your question to the breeders section. I don't belive you can be too careful, so call the vet and ask them. If it is bad /or something that needs to be checked out they will tell you to bring her in. 3 month ago I had an emergency at 11:oo am, so I was on the phone with the vets office asking for help some dum b#%@% gave me no answer. Well, they know who I am by my remark I gave that girl over the phone, right before I hung up on her. :p She called back and apologized for being dum. :f |
On pippas 1st heat she bleed for 6 weeks, on her 2nd heat only 3 weeks. |

I had a toy poodle who used to bleed longer than normal and it was due to infection. We had to have her spayed because it kept happening with each heat cycle. I would take her to the vet. |

I agree. The vet is probrably your best bet. Believe me my vet and er clinic know me by my first name. I always call them with random questions. That is what they are there for though ? right? I work in the medical field and have people calling all the time with questions. Just know that there is always someone else at your vets office doing the same thing so they will not think that you are nuts or bothering them! :D |
I have never heard of a dog bleeding for so long, I would at least call my vet or vet tech and ask questions!! |
