Judging from all the Yorkie pairs and multiples here and elsewhere, I do not think there is any advantage in genders. It really comes down to the individual dogs and whether they go together well. My boys did not meet until the day we picked up the 2nd. Generally, if you can, it is nice to meet on 'neutral' ground (not inside your home), but this isn't necessary. Lots of people bring home their 2nd puppy without problem. |
Yes two . I had Moki 7 lbs male.for few years before I got Winnie. I wanted to train my first one really good. The I got Winnie to play with Moki. He's doesn't want to much. He like ppl.. I had a chance to get another female 9mo old. So I did. Her an Winnie are related in bloodline but not litter or parents. They like each other. Moki still doesn't want to be bothered...So you never know. But he will play a little at least with them |
i have 2 from the same parents, different litter, milo the boy is 2 and meesha the girl is 4. They both have complete opposite personalities!!!. the girl is high strung, barks alot, gets anxiety about people, high energy, saucy, shes a little picky princess, but i love her to death. milo the boy, he is so calm, never barks, loves meeting people and other dogs, interdependent, sweet little boy. they balance each other out though. he idolizes her and follows her around everywhere she goes, shes the boss. when she wants attention she'll take his favorite toy, and he'll just cry about it, will never take anything from her or fight with her. the first month was very difficult, i regret not having my first yorkie trained more before getting him, because he did pick up a few of her bad habits, its harder to train with 2, i have to separate them to train them anything. I also didn't realize how much more it would cost in vet bills esp if one gets diagnosed with an illness suddenly, the girl has collapsed trachea which was diagnosed 5 months after getting him, so be prepared and have some money saved. I kept them separated the 1st week and had few hours where i would watch them socialize together, my 1st yorkie was jealous and a bit aggressive at 1st, so i followed advice from yorkietalk and made sure to watch them until i trusted them together and i also did everything for her first, she gets her food first, kissed and picked up first, gets her bone first etc, i kept her routine as best i could and after about a month they were bonded and have never left eachothers side since. i couldnt imagine life without 2 now, they love eachother so much. so that was my experience, but i think it all comes down to the dogs individual personality, so your not gaurenteed the same mannerism just because they're blood related, its a 50/50 chance. |
What's funny with mine is one is scred to death of vacuums and steam cleaners and fans, but the other will not budge out of the way from any of those. One fears new contraptions like kennels and stairs, the other prances about them almost mocking the others fears. One loves grooming and one turns into Cujo at the sight of a brush or clippers. They are complete and total opposites |

3 is fun! If I were adding a second yorkie I would go with one of the opposite sex, but my rule is only 1 girl dog in my house at a time. I currently have 1 girl and 3 boys (2 Yorkies and a setter). Some girls get along great with other girls, but I find that they are more likely to fight when they are older as opposed to males. Just my opinion though. |

Max, my first, is sort of like Moki. Prefers humans, but he will play a little with Teddy. It's rare that they play without a human involved though. Usually turns into wrestling thanks to Teddy. |

We got Brody when he was 14 months old, then puppy sat for our friend's ex show puppy Shih Tzu, realized he needed a companion after she went home, leaving Brody sad and forlorn. We got (golden) Mia when they were both 17 months old...they were immediately inseparable and great friends. No relation to each other but perfect complements. Now we have three, again no relation, so 'kissy face' has the three of them doing circles in pinwheel fashion as they kiss each other. The girls are adventuresome and trot off together to explore, where my boy is Mommy's prissy baby boy and prefers his mommy carry him and fuss over him. I think any number of Yorkies that feels right is the perfect number for you. LOL |
