Joaquin Phoenix and PETA have put together a video that shows dogs being slaughtered for their hides in China. This is the link to the article and video. PLEASE BE FOREWARNED THAT THIS VIDEO IS VERY GRAPHIC. I could not finish watching the video.

I am probably being a hypocrite because I do have a leather jacket, couch etc. But I don't have any pet cows and this video made me sick to my stomach. I will no longer buy any Chinese leather.

With all due respect to our communities great love of dogs and everyone's different preferences and choices in regard to animal based products or foods and of course to our sweet OP Bob, I would just like to encourage a cautious attitude when considering any information from the group PETA and would encourage additional research be done on the groups validity, intentions and positions (including the videos they produce). Our dogs are amazing sentient beings and we are very blessed to have them as our companions by our sides.

Do you think PETA is misleading the public with this video? If I am posting something that that may not be factual please let me know. I would never intentionally mislead anyone on this board but it would not be the 1st time in my life that I did not have all the correct information. There is no ego to bruise on this end, so feel free to correct me.

I believe that terrible things happen to animals all of the time and that it is very sad, awful and inappropriate. I have concerns with the organization PETA and their accuracy in information sharing. They have some clearly stated ideals- for example that people should not have dogs and because they have an agenda (as any organization with goals has) all of the items that they share are intended to further serve their goals and consequently that 'information' seems to often be very skewed in one particular way. Using the horror tactic on compassionate, caring people like yourself has been very effective for their organization but wether it accurately represents a situation or is a distorted glimpse of one terrible Slice of a pie is another question. From what I have seen, there are some grave concerns to be considered- especially as loving, caring dog owners, when interacting with PeTA or any of their well funded, mass distributed materials. I greatly value the Yorkshire terrier breed and all of the work and effort that has been put into creating these special little spirits and in an effort to protect that special relationship that we all share with our precious yorkies, I think we need to strongly consider the behaviors and influence of major organizations like PeTa and look deeply into any allegations they claim, the behaviors of the organization themselves and the effects of their actions. Because of my concerns with the intended goals and actions of that particular organization as well as the accuracy of their media, I felt compelled to encourage independent investigation into the subject- especially in a community of loving dog owners, for the future of our breed and our valuable relationships with our best friends.

PETA is known to put down healthy dogs at their own rescue facilities. Just Google and you'll find tons of information on what I'm talking about. It's a bit hypocritical of them. With that said, that video disgusts me.

They don't just put down dogs from their facilities, they take them from the streets and euthanize them. (I could be wrong, but I've seen a few articles about it.

Yes, you're correct about that, they do that too. There was an article of how they even put down healthy puppies. Plus, the executives at PETA makes millions while they get free work from volunteers. Business as usual.

Don't be troubled about where the footage came from -- the proof is in the footage, period.

I try not to buy anything that is either made in China or ingredients or parts come from China. That being said, try buying a set of any brand golf clubs - or Apple products. Good luck!

Yeah, I agree. PETA is a self serving organization that preys on soft hearts. And while they're preaching about animal rights and injustice, they are mercilessly killing every animal that comes to them from any source. It's awful. I fell for them when I was younger. But my eyes are open now. But wyliesmom is right too, that doesn't mean what the video shows is any less true or horrific, just don't start donating to PETA thinking it'll change or help the greater good. There are other organizations actually IN CHINA , run by Chinese activists that work their asses off and take all kinds of risks to save truckloads of dogs going to slaughter. Those people are the real heroes.

I don't by from China when I can..tools food ect. But somethings can't be helped. But some you still can do your part. Most things from China are inferior. Sure they can build quality. But we want quality on the cheap. Doesn't always work that way. I try to support Usa goods and if i can't I will get a Canada ,Japanese product... I will buy from Honduras before China.... JMO

Very true. Unfortunately there's no escaping from China products. Practically everything electronics is either made or assembled in China or have internal parts from China. Even my laptop I'm using to post this message is made in China and assembled in U.S. :(

Yup I said that. But I know its a Global Economy. But I will support USA products first. And countries that have fair honest producing and treat there ppl better when or given a choice.
