Collar got stuck in mouth I know this has been posted before and I've read that stuff but my question is my puppy is about 5 months old and when her collar got stuck she lost a tooth. There was no blood except on the tooth and she didnt seem to be in pain. Does this indicate that she lost a baby tooth? I'm buying her a new collar. The one she wears won't stay small enough for her. |
This is exactly how I learned MY lesson about collars!! I am an advocate for cat break away collars, if an owner insists on using a collar for whatever reason.....that way if they get the collar hung up on something, or caught on something, or caught in their mouts bad enough for them to struggle and pull a tooth out, the collar breaks away, freeing the pet BEFORE they loose teeth, or hang themselves. |
It definitely is to lose if they can get it in there mouth and while they are going through that phase I would make sure not to leave them alone with it on. |
Even after that phase. Toto is almost 10 years old and somehow got his collar stuck in his mouth a few months ago. I have no idea how it happened when his collar is already tight enough so I can barely get two fingers in underneath. And of course the buckle was next to his mouth so it was hard to unclick the buckle without pinching him. |
I also learned this lesson the hard way. The buckle got stuck inside my dogs mouth and It was difficult for me to reach. Scariest thing ever! My pups have not worn collars since then. But as someone else mentioned if you need one I would get a break away collar. Also I do think that was a puppy tooth that your pup lost. |
I've experienced this as well. I like break away collars as well for this reason. The tooth was possibly a baby tooth, so I wouldn't freak out too much. |
So sorry this happened to your kiddo. I suggest break away collars and/or make sure the collar is properly fitted by only being able to just fit a pinky finger btwn the collar and the neck. |
