Sunny nose and kind of sluggish? Not sure if this is the best place to post this but I'm on my way to woe but in summery I just adopted a little 3 year old Yorkie from the shelter and he has been fine with the exception of a clicking noise when he pants with his mouth open I took him to the vet and mentioned it but they didn't seem too concerned. He got his kennel cough nose drop thing when I took him in on Thursday. Today is now Saturday and he seemed fine in the morning but now he seems kinda sluggish and he has a runny nose a long with coughing episodes. I'm a first time dog owner so maybe he's just tired and I'm just over reacting but anything anyone has to say would help. As I said I'm going to work now but my mom and brother will be with him and they will be keeping an eye on him. Before this I was thinking he may have a collapsed trachea because of the clicking when he's tired and panting but could he have just could kennel cough at the shelter before I adopted him? Or perhaps could it be both kenne cough and a collapsed trachea? Like I said I'm a new pet owner so anything would help. Do you think he'll be okay until tomorrow? Thank you everyone in advance! |
Was he given the Kennel Cough vaccine at the shelter? If so, he could get kennel cough from the vaccine itself. He could also contract it normally too though. |
I would monitor the situation and get more concerned if the lethargy keeps up. Next time you are at the vet, they can do a single x ray that can look at the throat to tell you if there is anything to worry about there. Bella has a cough that we are dealing with but the vet says that it sounds worse than it is and that it can be dealt with. |
Doing better He's good as normal today his nose is a little runny still but it's maybe allergies? Il he's going to the vet tomorrow and we'll see what they say. He got the vaccine from the vet. Maybe I'm just freaking out need to give him time to adjust |
Could be collapse trachea, But there are a lot of dogs that live long lives with CT. I know they can be put on prednizone and cough medicine when it really acts up on them. Does it sound like a honking cough. My new dog makes a hack noise once or twice a day kinda like a cat with a hairball and vet said could be allergies. I know my guy has a sensative trachea because he will cough if he is on a collar so he is never on a collar just a harness. |
