how to keep hair out of the eyes Hair is starting to grow out fast. The hair in her face seems to be causing some tearing and probably blocking her view.. what kind of products can I use to kind of slick the nose hair out her eyes. And also at what age can I get her groomed? Thanks |
I waited until Sunni had all her shots before her first groom aside from me grooming her. Then I just wanted the groomer to do her nails, bath and ears. When I picked her up she had also cut the hair around her face which I literally specifically said do not do!! Anyway, she is 6 mos now and I havent cut it at all since. She went for her first official big girl groom this week with a groomer that I LOVE, not the first one. I was too impatient the first time to wait for the good groomer, lol. Another lesson learned! My real groomer did such a beautiful job. She just had a bath, nails, ears, butt and blow dry. She left the hair on her face and head alone. Up until then I was keeping little bands in Sunni's hair. It was harder to get one topknot so I was doing pigtails because I could gather more of the hair out of her eyes as it was growing back in. I saw someone suggest using a bit of vaseline, of course not a lot and be very careful not to get too close to the eyes. It works, but I really found I didnt need to do that. I just wash her eyes if they get yucky, but so far thats one thing that Sunni doesn't have a problem with!! |
Right now I actually like keeping my little Kimchi's beard fairly short but it does get into her eyes more (and that's mainly because she's almost always laying down). So it's either going really short or keeping it really long. Aside from Vaseline you might try a bit of beeswax or some beeswax melted in some oil (like olive, coconut, etc.) to make it more moisturizing. You'll want to make it thick/firm about like a lipbalm. This way it's not too bad if they ingest it some. |

Thanks I'm gonna try beeswax. I have virgin coconut oil to mix on hand I caught a sale (3.99 @home goods) |
I would also like to add that this company sells all organic herbs and whatnots. I get my beeswax pellets from there :) there may be other ingredients that can be useful for making things for our pets (I think they even sell a bit of pet stuff, too) https://www.mountainroseherbs.com/ |
Wylie’s Mom Ann suggested the tiny claws, I have been using them, they are excellent. Where ever there is a crevice Cody sticks his entire head in, and the claw is still there just not where I originally put it lol. |
The only thing that will stay in Sunni's hair are the tiny rubber bands. I have tried alligator clips, scrunchies, french barrettes and the claw things. No matter what I use, I have to start with the bands. Her her is really super soft so anything I put in just falls out. She's so hyperactive I need to use the bands even if I want to put a bow or anything else in, lol. Without bows or something Sunni can look like quite the little Ragamuffin, haha. |
If your pup's hair is long enough, you can put it in a topknot! I do that with my girl's hair everyday. |

With my teddy he has curly hair so all I can do is mom him by pushing face hair down! |
