Nail Question Nail clipper or Dremel?? My husband and I were wondering what most Yorkie owners use. They use the Dremel at the groomer, but my sister uses clippers on her Morkie. Thanks for the thoughts! |
Vote for dremel here. It's so stressful using the clipper for both the furbutts AND myself. Plus, I'm always terrified I'm going to cut the quik. With the dremel, much less chance of that happening. |
Another vote for the Dremel. It seems to make the whole nail filing process a lot faster. |
I use clippers. I bought madan clippers from Jenny at toplinepet and they work great. |
what dremel do you guys use? 7300-PT? |
dremmel I have used both. The dremmel is reliable and doesn't cut into the quick. However, the nail clipper is quicker and doesn't cause as much stress with the dog, in my opinion. Both my babies hate to have their nails trimmed, so with both I have to bundle them between my legs when doing either, dremmel or clippers. Bottom line, the quicker the better, just be ready with some steptic powder. |
I was given a dremel type nail trimmer when ZoE was a puppy. Zo did not like it at all!!! I think it was the noise and the vibration from it. I just use miller forge nail clippers to cut nails. They work great! |
We use a clipper, but we have a dremel as a tool....and wonder if we shouldn't try it on our Wylie, who is totally terrified of clippers. Hmmmm. |
There is a special dremmel tool made for dog nail trimming. it has a plastic gaurd around it so you wont get the hair caught in it' |

Sorry not off hand. I see if I can find out and post it here later |
I got mine at Wal-Mart in the pet center. the sell out often so you might have to check the pet center often before you find it. |
Great Einstein, how lucky you are. Our Sprawl-Mart doesn't have that it in its section, nor does it have any of the PetHead products (which I have seen in other Sprawl-Mart stores). Our little section is sad in my hometown. You can find the Dremel for pets on Amazon for about $24. I would be terrified of grinding too much, although I'm terrified of cutting into the quick! I just nervous about it -- period. |
Btw Thank you, everyone, for your very helpful answers.;) |
