New to Yorkies Behaviour - Advice Hi we have had our 1st Yorkie puppy for 3 weeks now she is a really bold & independent dog but when she crashes she loves a lap she is really a dog for me but whenever I sit with her on my lap she is fine until my husband sits down & then she goes over & snuggles on his lap he puts her back on my lap & she's like a bit of elastic straight back to him ?? Anyone else had this ? Also she doesn't really wag her tail at us or seem excited to see us in the morning not sure if this is something that comes with time ? Apologies if these questions seem daft but I've not got any experience with Yorkies as we have always had cresties Thanks in advance Nicole |
Hiya, My Teddy was SO aloof when I first brought him home and for MONTHS afterwards. He, to this day, rarely wags his tail. He'll be 2 in October and I've had him since he was 12 weeks old. I would say that she is still very young and still trying to learn the ropes at her new house with her new people. It just takes time. You will probably find that she goes to you one week (or month) and then goes back to hubby. This is good, because if she becomes TOO attached to one person it can be problematic, sometimes i.e. separation anxiety, etc. Plus, you'd feel worried about leaving her and stuff when you needed to if you thought you were the only one she could stand to be around! I hope this has helped with your new puppy! Would love to see pics! |
Hi and welcome to YT :)! I would just give it more time...he is still adjusting / changing. He will continue to grow his bond with you as more time passes :). |
She is just a baby! She may like his lap because it is warmer than yours. This is the case with my Yorkie. He is my dog and adores me, but when my husband sits on the couch he will go curl up next to him because he is warmer than me. Sometimes when my teenager daughter sits down he will go sit with her. Your dog will want to sit with who she wants to sit with. Mine will not sit on my lap, he will curl up next to me on the couch but won't sit on my lap. I have heard that many yorkie puppies don't wag their tail that much until they are in the 4-6 month range, but that is just what I have heard. I am getting 2 Yorkie/Crested mix puppies in less than 2 weeks! I can't wait to see what they are like when they get home. I think the tail wagging will come with time. Mine wags his little nub like crazy and paws the air when I come home, or just when I come upstairs from doing a load of laundry. I will be like "Teek, I was gone 2 minutes." LOL Give her time. She is still learning. Enjoy this time with her! It will go quickly. Unlike my wait to get my puppies which is dragging on and on. |

No it's me that feeds her plays with her & spends most time with her ? X :) |
She may just like him. She may just want some attention from him. I do everything with Teek. I feed him, bathe him, walk him, play with him, he sleeps next to me at night. When my husband comes home from work he runs to the door to greet him. As soon as my husband sits down Teek jumps up on the couch and curls up next to him. However, later in the evening he is back with me again. He loves us both, but he is much more bonded with me. I stay at home so Teek is with me all day long. It is good that she likes him too, so share it, laugh about it and enjoy the fact that she does love him too. I think it is adorable when Teek curls up next to my husband. It is even cuter when Teek climbs onto his lap and wants to be petted. My husband is almost afraid to touch him because he feels he will break him, but he gently pets him. The first month I had Teek I would hand him the dog occasionally and he held him like a new dad holds a baby and it was so funny. He will now let Teek stand on his arm the way he stands on mine. |
Jade, my Gizmo is the exact opposite because I spend most of the time with him, that when daddy comes home he's like the dad that takes the kids to Disneyland every weekend hahaha. I think also I'm the mean mommy who trains him and makes him follow the rules, so he can't wait for daddy to come home, so he can break all the rules because my hubby does not enforce them :-) I think hubby does this so he's the good guy lol. |
Female dogs are more attracted to male human. Male dogs are more attracted to female human. That's just how it works. This doesn't mean she doesn't love you as I'm sure as she gets adjusted she will love you, but she might be more keen to your husband. Just make sure you spend a lot of time with her and be the one that gives her the yummy treats. :D |
