New Member 3 Attachment(s) Hello Everyone! I am new as a member, however I have been reading posts for quite some time. I have an 18 week Yorkie male whom we have named Zeus. He is a very affectionate pooch and also a little destructor as well. He loves to play, loves the outdoors (even snow), loves walks and is doing surprisingly well with potty training. He is also the best escape artist ever. No point in 'locking' him anywhere or blocking anything as he WILL find a way. Anywho, when I purchased him, I had called the vet reference the person gave me, everything checked out. However, I didn't get a chance to see his parents. He is very healthy but I just want to know what he is entirely. I don't think he is a purebred, but I don't know what he could be mixed with. He is 18 weeks and already 7lbs. Should I or shouldn't I do the DNA test and which one would you recommend? I don't care whether he's mixed or not, I just want to know. Some pics of Zeus below :) |

Welcome , Zeus is a cutie .. I guess he will be a big boy :D I could be wrong but he looks like a Yorkie to me . |
Welcome! I am no expert but I have read here about full bloods getting up into the mid teens for weight so 7 pounds doesn't not seem too heavy for a yorkie. |
Thank you :) We love that he is a big boy! He looks Yorkie to me, but of course there are people who say he's not because of his curls. So I just want to be sure. |
@Myoscar - I thought I posted a reply, but I don't see it....ooopsy. We love that he is a big boy! I just want to know for sure (hopefully via dna test) because it's nice to know, especially since people keep telling me he's not a yorkie because of his curls. @maxdog, thank you...as mentioned above we were hoping for a bigger Yorkie, so I'm glad he's already in the bigger range! |
I posted two replies, I have no idea what happened to them. I try one more time! Thanks to the both of you for your replies. We are happy that he is a big boy, we were actually hoping for a bigger Yorkie. :) As for the DNA test, we just want to be sure, because lots of people keep saying he's not a Yorkie because of the curls. It would just be nice to know exactly what his breed is. |
Welcome! Just enjoy him and when he is full grown see what he looks like as with puppies it is so hard to tell! If you bought him then they should have told you if he was a purebred or not unless they didn't list him as any particular breed. He is beautiful and I can't wait to see what he looks like full grown! |
Welcome to you and Zeus. Both of mine are around 10-11 lbs and quite sturdy. |
Welcome to YT :) |

I was told he was a Yorkie but again, I didn't get to see his parents so I can't be 100% sure. But yes, I love him no matter what ;) |
Mine is 11 pounds at 7 mos. and pure bred. Yours looks yorkie to me sometimes it can be hard to tell when they are quite young |
Didn't the breeder know or are you saying she said that he's a purebred? That's pretty big for an 18 week, but it's possible. Ears are longer than most Yorkies so it might be a breed with longer ears, but even that isn't always the case. Unless a breeder breeds for specific things, other traits will pop up and a purebred, can look like another breed. You can do a DNA test, Dog DNA Test, Dog Breed Test - Wisdom Panel Canine DNA Testing | Wisdom Panel if your curious, they are becoming more affordable. Whatever he is, he's adorable, and looks like he'll be tall! |
Welcome! 3 Attachment(s) I am fairly new as well. My baby is named Zeus! I don't think it matters what kind he is as long as you love him. I have seen bigger Yorkies. Our Zeus is tiny, and he is a registered full bred Yorkie; he is just smaller than some others. We love him just the same. Here are some pictures of my Zeus. Welcome again, and your Zeus is adorable!! These babies are heart stealers for sure! Attachment 405597 Attachment 405598 Attachment 405599 |
Welcome to YT - he is SO adorable! He looks all yorkie to me...he might just be a larger one, perhaps? |
