I dont know what to do I love Spice's topknot but am thinking of cutting it for the summer. She wont leave her topknot in an I redo it 5-10 times a day! LOL I have the rest of her cut about an inch long or maybe 1/2 inch. I just love the looks of a topknot with a bow to match her dresses. What to do what to do. Anyone in the same mode as me on this? |
After nearly a year of growing Barney's facial hair out, I finally had it cut. Instead of shaving his nose, I had it kind of corner cut. His head hair is cut between his eyes and gradually gets longer to fall to the side of his face. He hated the top knot and it was a constant battle. At first I missed it, but he looks cute with his face showing. Plus he can see a lot better. The body hair was left kind of long. It is one length and falls below his belly. It's short enough to be easy to groom but long enough to be yorkified. |
I'm in the same boat bc our Pfeiffer girl HATES the topknot and always works it out...but then her hair/bangs don't really work right shorter either...so it kinda stinks. |
I love how the topnot looks, but if its making your life miserable I'd get a really cute cut for her. They still look so adorable with the puppy cut or some of the other cuts. Sunni's hair is still growing, and she will let me put bands in. Pigtails work better on her for some reason..a single top not is in and out all day. When I do pigtails, they can stay in for a few days. The bows will come out before 2 days, lol. But thats ok. I am letting her hair grow around her face. I had taken her for nail trims and hygeine clip and when I got back the groomer had trimmed all around her face too:(. Thats growing out now as well. I saw a tip on here from another poster that has actually been helping us get thru the awkward, too short but not long enough stage. I use a vaseline to flatten the hair on her snout so it doesnt get into her eyes. obviously avoid the eyes:) Before you cut, have you tried pigtails? I think Sunni can handle them better because they are by her (big) ears, and its pretty cute on her. |

I've thought about doing it for ZoE because most days she doesnt have a bow in, but her hair is very thin and her topknots already look scrawny, I'd hate for her to have even less hair in them. It seems to work well with these maltese because they have thicker hair. |
Will the type of scrunchie make a difference?or do a shorter topknot ? |
I found some tiny bands just for yorkies and am using alligator clips on her bows and they are staying in ALL day! I will say Spice do you want to get pretty and she will stand so still on her table and I will take off her pjs and comb her and dress her than put a band and bow in and she is a happy little brat ! LOL She knows she gets a special treat after. She has changed so much in the last month, never pees or poos on the floor but uses her pad or goes outside, lets me put a bow in and trim her nails, brush her teeth and all the daily rituals with no fuss or anything. Just amazing what a week or two can do. The only problem I am having is when someone comes to the door is her barkng but even that is better. I have found AS YOU ALL SAY , patience and time. She is just the best little love I have ever had ,almost as good as my Sugar. I am so happy I found this forum and all you wonderful helpful people♥♥ |
Feel your pain 2 Attachment(s) I don't do a top knot as Zeus is not old enough yet, but I do love the longer hair on his face. Pic 1 is the way I love it. Pic 2 is on the grow after they trimmed it at the groomer because they said it was too long. We took him to get some his puppy "cotton candy" matted hair trimmed off, and they cut his face hair saying it was too long. I'm with you -- don't know what to do. Ugh! |
Mine all have topknots and full hair. Brody had been groomed the day I got him at 14 months old, and they had cut his face in such a way his eyes were not visible, and covered with hair going every which-a-way. It took a long time growing it all out, but well worth it IMHO. We use tiny dollar store scunchies, 2 at a time, for topknots, which are easily removable and redoable, and they work out sometimes, but all 3 Yorkies are excellent at letting me spiffy them up again. You will have to decide what 'you' want, then either cut, or teach your baby to allow you to put up the hair. It is a tough decision because they can be so insistent on getting their way. I grew it out so it is out of the eyes always. Plus I love the long hair Yorkie look. My first groomer told me the first time she groomed Brody that he didn't like anything done to him. He was about 15 months old. To watch him get groomed here now...I do most of it...you would never know that. He is mommy's prissy boy and he loves looking gorgeous! He was 5 in March. Good luck, and you know you can change your mind and cut it if you go long or grow it again if you get it cut...LOL. Hugs |

He didn't like it at first but got used to it being tied up pretty quickly. It didn't stay in well at first with just those little dog hair bands. So then I tried another way...and it stays in, even when he rubs his head and face all over the carpet! I wrap the little elastic around the pony tail 3 times. Then bend the pony tail back, to form a little topknot look, and clip it with one of those tiny hair clips for girls (see pic). It works like a charm! But then, people kept asking if my Scottie was a girl. haha...oh well. I don't care :D |
1 Attachment(s) oops! forgot to attach the pic. |
