Izzy home from spay! It gets to be like a soap opera on here don't it?! Lol Lazer surgery, done ...drowsy but holds head up and managed a lick. I had chicken and rice fresh made she wolfed down and drank water and peed ....that is main concern aside from keeping quiet for a few days and no stairs for 5. Watch for swelling or seeping....she's snuggled in her favorite spot and blankee.... Baby happy to be home....mama too😘 🍪 made doggy cookies for tomorrow , zoey liked that right out of the oven today!🐾🐾🐾🐾 |
Aww thats great!! Now mommy can relax tonight and get a good night sleep:) So glad to hear the surgery was a success! |
How much is laser surgery compared with regular spay? |

Having said this, there are huge advantages to laser spaying. First and most importantly, the dog experiences far less pain during recovery. They are also far less likely to fuss with their wounds, which could lead to infection. Laser spay surgery itself is far more sanitary since the heat of the laser kills any bacteria that find their way into the wound. Worth it in my book....$225.00 and that includes intensive care , exam, consult, pre anesthetic ,anesthesia , and lab work .probably depending on the area and the clinic. Mine consists of a vet of one, not several and in a small town. I also had her microchipped for an additional charge...... |
Thanks, I had no idea what kind of cost it would be. I might see if any vets in my area do this. I am glad it sounds like she is doing well. I hope she has a fast recovery. |

Just a little red where slit is, resting comfortably but awake at times....otherwise she's not bothering it at all.....yet.... We'll see what she's like when she's fully awake the little wild thing....I'm ready though....onesies ✅ Playpen x 2✅ Extra blankees ✅ Carriers to confine ✅ Gates to restrict access to stairs✅ Extra pee pads, in case can't move fast enough to get there✅ Toys, toys, toys to keep occupied confine✅✅✅ Sheesh! 3 days very little movement, 5 days till stairs.... |
I might add... The laser seals nerve endings as it cuts so that the pet has less pain during recovery. ... my vet swears she won't even need pain medication. |

I had Spice done laser ,last month and is was as tho she had nothing done!! She never once bothered her wound and for a couple days it was a little red and swollen but didnt stop her from doing anything and I was really concerned as she just wouldnt stay still so she was crated for 3 days. A week later she was running and jumping!! I just cant believe the changes she has gone thru in the 3 mo I have had her. Every day a different one so I am enjoying her every day and wonder what tomorrow will bring! love this baby of mine.♥ |
Glad everything went well. Hope she heals fast. |
It really depends on what kind of surgery is done and the skill of the surgeon but most Yorkies are ready to go after the second day. I have had a multitude of small animals spayed/neutered and not had any issues for the last couple of decades. It was back when they were still using the old external sutures that we had a few problems post surgery. Your baby will be back to normal in a very short amount of time. |

She was most certainly awake bright and early this morning but not in any discomfort. Not a peep . Ate , drank and peed well too...resting now inthe comfort of her favorite spot, blankees, and mama. Trying to have a quiet , low keyed day😴💤 ....cept that little zoey keeps wanting to check up on her!👀 I have daddy patrol going on there👍 |

WOW, $225 total for a spay, and laser no less?? That's awesome!! Glad your little one is on the mend - you must be so glad it's over and that she is back home :). |
I wish my vet had laser surgery but they don't, just the old fashioned scalpel kind but they do use dissolvable stitches ;). I am getting my baby spayed next week. She weighs 4 lbs. Does anyone know what size onesie I should buy for her in case she bothers her stitches? I also didn't know they couldn't go up or down stairs for 5 days. Duncan didn't have any restrictions for stairs when he was neutered. Good thing I come on the forum :) I am not looking forward to Elliot being spayed either. I arranged to have the next day off of work so I can watch her. |

That sounds good. I watched her like a hawk to see what she'd do till bed time. Surprisingly she left it alone, and awake off and on. They don't want to miss a thing. Sleeping in playpen beside me , I was able to keep an eye on her, I'm such a light sleeper.....in morning after a bit though she had nose down there naturally. A few days before , I practiced putting the onesie on her and taking it off and having her et the feel of it.She wanted to whip out of it every time but if I wanted her to hold still it was like a straight jacket, she froze! Didn't like it. So since she isn't jumpy and runny yet I'll wait . what I did do was cut a strip of her favorite thin receiving blanket , just wide enough to cover her belly and just long enough to wrap around her and taped it together with shipping tape! That stuff is stickier than scotch tape. It's like , oh what do you call it when you wrap a newborn up ?! Can't think......any way she loved it! And it's breathable.. Oh swaddling ! lol I was pretty proud of myself for thinking of that but after I write it down it sounds pretty barbaric! Lol |

Well look at it this way, there was the scalpel before the laser and that worked. Better that than not at all.....a lot of people like the cones too. Size depends on length of dog. Zoey was a tiny and had preemie size....Izzy is longer so she took infant , one size up...and it depends on the brand. Walmarts carters are real narrow , but the other brand they carry..ohhhh...ummmmm....?!??....was wider. Compare......get her used to it too...i haven't used mine yet..... I'm going to have fun keeping Izzy down too.... |
Oh, at that time zoey weighed about 2. 1/2 I do believe and Izzy is a month older than Zoey was ,she's 6'months and 10 days, weighs 3.8 lb. |
Spay We just had Bella fixed on 5-28 Thursday. She is 3lb and had scalpel with glued incision. She is doing well but flippppps out with the cone. We could not do it because she was hurting herself. I had not heard of doing a onesie. Great idea! We have resorted to using a 2 inch medical tape that is thick, flexable and stretchy. It sticks to itself so it is like a loose by stationary band around her tummy. Her incision is super ichy right now so I think it is healing. Glad your little one is doing well. No one commented on stairs??? We are helping her when we can catch her. She is up and moving so quick. Thanks |
How did I miss your thread?! I am very happy to read that Izzy's surgery is over and she did so well!! |
