Expecting a baby and my Yorkie. Hello All! I have not been on YT in a long time. Julius and I have missed everyone. Hope everyone and their fur babies are doing good! A lot has been going on in our lives. Moved, got a budgie named Mr. Cheeks (Julius is very Jealous of him), my fiancé has moved in with us, and we are currently expecting a baby girl in August. Julius is taking to everything very well. He is a strong independent good boy. However, he is, at times a little Jealous. I am really concerned how he will be when our little girl arrives. I have read up on how to introduce dogs to a new baby, ex having my fiancé bring a blanket home with the babies scent, but I am still concerned. We recently got a Parakeet, and Julius does not like us even being near his cage, let alone saying his name. He barks, and wines, and growls. We have slowly been introducing the 2, and seem to be making a little progress. A friend even brought her baby over and Julius, never aggressive, whined the whole time I was holding the baby. Any advice would be appreciated. Has anyone had a jealous yorkie and a new baby. Did everything work out ok. Thank you so much! |
Awww....well congratulations on the new baby coming! I don't have any advice and I'm sorry for that....sounds like you have a very jealous boy there! |
Wow! You certainly have a lot of changes happening at once. This is not the same situation, but I have a 8-10 year old girl who was in a bad breeding situation and then a shelter. She is very protective/jealous. She growls at anyone who comes near me. I have a 3 month old grand daughter and she completely ignores her when she's here. She lays in her bed while I hold the baby. So maybe, maybe, it will work out with you and your baby. Hopefully a few others will chime in with information. It's good that you are trying to educate yourself before troubles arise. |
Congratulations on your baby!! I have a jealous little Yorkie too..at first I thought it was kind of cute, but not so much now. She is extremely possessive of me when I'm holding any other living being. When my neice comes over with her little baby, Sunni has no problem. She pretty much ignores the baby, until I hold her..then she gets all nutty and barks, gets on my lap and tries to get closer to me then the baby:eek: Yesterday, I was brushing my other dog and I thought she would lose her mind. I honestly didnt know how to handle it, but figured if I stopped brushing Harry she would know her antics work. So, I ignored her and eventually she was ok. I'm just going to have to keep working on it. I think its great that you are thinking and planning for this before your baby comes. I'm sure after the initial meeting, things will be fine. Its when you are NOT prepared for things, that things go wrong. |
I think it's important to just be prepared to be very patient, understanding, and compassionate with little Julius as he adjusts to this big change in his life...if you keep those qualities as your guide, you won't be able to go wrong. |
