about age I just wanted to know how can u tell when ur dog is a senior dog. Some places said that my dog wont be a senior till she about 6 or 7. but something I have seen from the vet said that next year she will need her senior welliness tests. but she going to be 4 this year. so she still adult not olden for anything like that. but I don't know if they got something wrong at the vet or things change and age 4 1/2 will be senior or 5 year old is. I thought every 7 years they age. but everything has change since I had a dog and that's been like 17 years something like that. and I had this dog almost 4 years now. I don't want the vet to give her things that she don't need next year if she not a senior dog. I do know the age thing is different for smaller dogs then bigger dogs. I don't want to say anything to the vet till I really have to right now. so I just don't know what to do. can someone help me out with this. thanks for taking the time to read this post and comment on it. |
I'd say 7. |
PS They probably just want to check more lab values. I think that's a good thing! |
yeah but I don't want her to get any shot that are for senior. since that what it kind of show up on the profile we have online for her. so I just don't know. I thought it was 7 years. but other places say different. |

oh she does. but why do they call it senior welliness then if she not a senior then. that what I don't get why say senior if they are not that age then. |
My Vet's start considering them senior's when they hit age 7. |
My two are older and the vet wants to see them every 6 months for a wellness check so if anything new pops up healthwise they can start treating it. Maybe that's all they mean. They have been healthy so I don't think I started doing this until they were around 10 years old. |

Well mine is not even 4 yet. so don't u think that is early to be checking her. |

she goes in every 6 months now for a check up and shots. we try to get her in just about every month to get her glands clean out. I thought it said at the bottom senior wiliness check 2018 not 2016 but then again it might have said 2016 and I never payed much to it. I just don't want her to get anything the senior get when she not even there age that all. everything I see now days saying she will be much older then what she is now. but I never know if they are right anymore. |
I would not consider a 4 year old Yorkie to be a senior. I would say around the 7-8 age range. My 9 year old is just starting to really be in that senior category if you ask me. He thinks he is 7 though so don't tell him he is actually 9. I would only consider really big dogs to be seniors at a younger age and even then I would say around 6 is considered senior for them. |
I wouldn't think so either. but I did look at some of her papers and it does say 2018 senior wiliness test but I hope when they put 2016 on it was a miss print. but I just don't know it's 15 years to one dog year or 7. things change on me. |
