Microchip I'm just curious if anyone had this happen before. I took mitsy to get microchipped today while I was walking out I realized she was bleeding heavily! I had blood pouring down my arm while I was carrying her. Naturally I panicked and rushed back in. The tech told me it's normal and common! I looked at her extremely upset! Ive had taken other dogs to get chipped before but never has this happened!! Is this really normal?! |
The same thing happened when I had my English Setter chipped. We were walking (she was on a harness) about 30 minutes after it was put in and she started bleeding. She was white, so there was blood everywhere. I took her back to the vet and they looked at it and made sure the chip was still in (scanned her) and sent her back home. It happened about an hour later, but not quite as much bleeding and we were at home, so I was able to put a wash cloth and a little pressure on it since we weren't 3 blocks from home this time. After that it was fine though. |
Both furbutts got chipped and that never happened. And this is the first time I've ever heard of it... |
This is the reason that Teek is not microchipped yet. I worried he will start bleeding and scare me to death. Both new puppies are getting chipped when they get fixed. I keep wanting to get Teek chipped, but I am so afraid he will do this as my other dog did it as well. It was so scary although the vet didn't seem to concerned, they just made sure the chip didn't come out and sent us back home. |
I have never seen this nor had it happen to me when I chipped any of my puppies!! Obviously, I would surmise a vessel was hit or perhaps the chip was deeper than sub-Q. |
I'm glad to say my girl was chipped, with a syringe i ordered from AKC, when she was fixed and I kept her activity to a minimum as much as I could and didn't have bleeding issues and still don't. This is the first time I heard of this issue O.o;; I most likely wouldn't try to walk/harness them within the first few days or so after chipping just in case, anyways. |

I've never heard of bleeding when inserting microchips . I've only had 2 dogs microchipped(the older ones I currently have) and although Rasta yelped, there was no bleeding. The needle they use to insert is rather big, so maybe a blood vessel was nipped? Laveau is due for hers soon, hopefully that won't happen. |
1 Attachment(s) :( I didn't think it was normal...not to scare you guys but this is how much she bled...and that's just what leaked onto my arm...her coat was soaked! This all happened less than 30 seconds after she got chipped while walking out the door...I almost had a heart attack! I think they must have struck a vein or something..she's fine now thank god! |
Okay... if that happened to me, I'd totally freak out. I'd be yelling at the top of my lungs and go into psycho mode. |
Both my puppies were microchipped when I received them so I don't have any experience with it. But Pet Supplies Plus is having free microchipping over the next month several times and I was planning on taking my older dachshund to be microchipped as she never was. After reading this thread, I am having second thoughts on getting her microchipped. She is a 13 year old dog and I wonder if it is any harder to microchip them when they are older? Would they have any more problems? |

Sorry to hear about your baby. I'm thinking I'd have the same reaction. Bailey go m-chiped a couple of years ago, and no problems. First I've heard of this. Having said that, this is the only forum I belong to. |

I really want to have Teek Microchipped and could have it done this weekend, but I fear this happening so I am not sure I will actually have it done. The puppies will each be microchipped when they are fixed. My big dog was microchipped when I got him. I am still debating about having Teek done. I know I do not want to be the one holding him when they do it. |
emma was chipped while getting spayed. No bleeding but I would imagine that it's possible to bleed. Glad the vet thought it to be normal and all was well. |
My vet told me this could happen and also told me that chipping would hurt. So, I guess I have the benefit of being forearmed re: expectations. However, the benefits of chipping far outweigh any temporary discomfort (mentally, emotionally, physically), so I will absolutely get Teddy chipped despite the possibility of blood etc. That doesn't mean I won't faint, though! |
I can have Teek chipped on Saturday for $15 at a mobile vet at Pet Sense. I would take him to his normal vet but I am not about to pay $60 to have him chipped when my last dog cost $20 at the vet's office for the same procedure. I meant to have it done last month at the mobile vet, but I did a 5K that day and came home and fell asleep and missed the time they were there. I worry about the bleeding part though as I hate to see anything happen to my little guy, but I would seriously hate to lose him even more than that. Chipping is so good because it does increase your chances of getting them back if they are lost. It also can prove ownership if you think someone has your dog and the police can have animal control check for a chip and see if it is your dog. With as many Yorkies are stolen I do worry about that, of course Teek is never away from me so good luck to anyone who tries to steal him. They would probably bring him back because he misses me so much. LOL |

Nevermind I found it online. For buffalo the free microchip ends on 4/25. I'll be going to make my $10 purchase today to receive my voucher thanks so much |
I had Lola done two weeks ago at a mobile clinic at Pet Supplies Plus, there was no bleeding at all. What surprised me though was they told me not to put a harness on her for 4 days since it could cause rubbing and the chip would come out. Since she goes potty outside strapped to a harness this was hard, I used her collar and would carry her out and not let her pull. I also used the harness a few times, this Saturday I plan to go back to make sure the chip is still there. The did say the needle was sort of large and that is why the chip could come out, for any of you guys that had a lot of bleeding I would make sure to have your dog scanned to insure the chip is still in place. |
I was not told not to walk my setter with a harness after it was done, that is probably why it bled. The first thing they did was check to make sure the chip was still in. That will make it difficult to walk Teek when I use a harness with him. I do think I will have it done this Saturday though, it worries me that he is not chipped. As for the person with the 13 year old, I am not sure I would have it done at that age to be honest. I would definitely ask the vet. I called Teek's vet and they want $60 to chip him and I told them I would go somewhere else as that is just too much when I can get it done for $15 at the mobile vet at Pet Sense. I am having the puppies done when they are fixed so they won't feel it. They will be on limited mobility for several days anyway and hopefully using pee pads so not using a harness will be good. |

Yeah, that was a good idea. They are aware of Teddy's anxiety issues and said that they could take him upstairs and do it outside of my presence because, sometimes, owners being there during this kinda thing exacerbate nerves. True enough, I guess, I have heard this said by groomers, too.. They said, if they take him upstairs, I will more than likely hear him scream but he'll be okay... I want to swear so much in fear but have to remain appropriate on this site..LOL Just know, though, the F-bomb keeps running through my head and that is FAINT and the other word... In danger of losing my ladylike composure, here... |
I am getting Teek done tomorrow, so I will let you know how he does with it. I think it will be like getting ears pierced, a moment of pain and then nothing. My setter really didn't hardly notice it being done, but she was 30 lbs, not 7. I will let you know how it goes though and if Teek doesn't hardly notice it at all then maybe Teddy will be just fine. Don't worry. |
My little 3lbs Yorkie didn't even make a Peep. Neither did my Moki at 5lbs.. No blood either. But the needle is thick |

Teek is now microchipped! I had it done a bit ago. He was not happy about it, but didn't cry or anything. I don't think it was any worse than getting a vaccination. He bled about 8 drops of blood, they had me put a paper towel over it so I could see how much blood was there and it was very little. I was told to put pressure on it and they scanned him to make sure it was in good and we went home and no issues. |
Finster just got his chip today.. along with rabies and K-cough nose mist. he's a worm when it comes to shots. it took some getting in but all went well. No blood. I was prepared just in case. He's acting fine. |
