Pet plan anyone? 1 Attachment(s) I know there have already been several threads but I'm a newbie.. 1) good to have pet insurance? 2)best experience with an insurer? 3)best plans to get? Thanks in advance... |
Hi, Yes I did get pet insurance for Sunni. I just got it a few weeks ago, after already spending several thousand on vet bills since I got her as a new puppy. I was fully aware that she may have health issues even when I got her and was prepared to care for her. Once I realized that her problems may continue to get worse or new ones may creep up, I decided to get the insurance. And, she had to go to the Vet yesterday!! $500, later I was very happy that I have the insurance. I have to pay the vet and get reimbursed by the company. But yesterdays visit will pretty much make this years payments worth it. I think the rate is lower if you get it when the puppy is young. I'll give you the link to the company I'm using. https://account.gopetplan.com/Accoun...fVets%2fMyVets Check out several. I went with this one because my company gives us a 20% discount, so my rate is pretty low…I just think of it as another bag of dog food:) Good luck! |
I think it's great to have pet insurance. I first had Pet Plan and then switched to Healthy Paws bc I liked the way they did their deductibles. |
I took a look at that link and that's not bad at all for pet insurance. |
I have healthy paws to. My last yorkie had major health issues and I paid for it all out of pocket because I didn't think I could get insurance for her (at least that was what the vet told me...have since changed vets). She was seven years old when I got her and had pre existing conditions. I wanted to make sure that money was not a consideration with my current yorkie should any health issues arise. As soon as I got her, I got pet insurance. The best 40.00 a month I spend. |
I paid so much for my yorkies that I didn't want to not be able to afford to pay for any vet bills that crop up because of illnesses or injuries so I got pet insurance as soon as I got them. I also have Healthy Paws insurance. After researching many insurances, I decided on Healthy Paws because I only have to pay the deductible once a year, not every event and because there is not a limit to what they will reimburse me for every event and/or a yearly reimbursement. With some of the insurances, I found you have to pay the deductible for every injury and some insurances have maximums that they will reimburse you for the surgeries, injuries or illnesses and/or maximum yearly reimbursements so I didn't choose those. Someone on the forum posted a link with many insurances listed and what their deductibles, reimbursement policies, etc. were. I don't remember the link but maybe someone else will. |
Miss Sunni I wonder how much you are able to use the insurance after Sunni had health issues prior? Insurance companies do not cover pre existing conditions and that is a big disadvantage if you don't start with a perfectly healthy dog. I hope little Sunni does not need the insurance too much in the future though:) sounds like she has been through enough already. Insurance however is very useful and I would always recommend getting it ASAP after getting a dog. |
