Only really eats once per day I split Joni's daily kibble allowance and feed her half in the morning and the rest in the evening. She's gotten to where she really only eats in the evening and stretches her meal over an hour or so while we are playing. In fact, she really doesn't start to eat until we are all on the floor playing. Then she eats a bit, plays a bit until it's gone. Often, it's still the morning portion that she's eating in the evening. I think feeding her the rest would get her too full and bloated, but I worry that she's not getting enough calories. Her weight right now is good. She did get a bit heavy over the long winter, but she's very trim and at ideal weight currently per vet. Daily walks and lots of play. Would you give her the balance of her kibble in the evening? That would essentially be two meals at once. |
IMO thats fine. As long as she's ideal weight. My Winnie eats very little for breakfast and lunch. But she will eat alot in the evening. All her portions. Sometimes she's hungry but he lets me know |
As long as her weight is okay, it's fine if she chooses to eat only once per day. |
I don't know how old she is, but for an adult dog it should be okay. My 9 year old Yorkie has food available to him all day long but he chooses to eat about 7pm at night. I think that is when he was fed at his old home and so even though he has food there all day he chooses to just eat at night. I figure if he was hungry during the day he would eat some food. I do give him a dog treat or two during the day so he has something because he won't ear earlier in the day. He seems content though. If it was a puppy I would encourage it to eat more throughout the day. |
