Colby Came HOME!! 2 Attachment(s) Hello again everyone. I posted a couple of weeks back saying that I was getting my puppy a little too early and what to expect. Big thanks to everyone who responded with things I should expect. Especially on the hypoglycemia. If I wouldn't have been prepared when I got him home things could have been bad as he was hypoglycemic I think when I got him home. (Long car ride) Since then he's been to the vet and got a clean bill of health. Full of energy and generally doing well. No diarrhea or anything! We've been mixing wet food/milk replacer/dry food together as he is only 8 weeks old but he drinks the milk/water, sucks every last piece of kibble dry, licks the bowl of ALL wet food and refuses to eat the kibble at all. I know that he needs hard kibble for a variety of reasons but I can't have him NOT eating and the only thing he seems to want to eat is wet food. Any suggestions? Congrats on your new baby . I am glad he is doing well . I am sorry I do not have any advice on the feeding issue . I am sure someone here will know about that .. I could not see your pics though .. |
Hi and congrats on your new baby! He does not "need" to have kibble for any reason - so I would not worry about that. It's a myth that kibble is "better for teeth" -- just think of your own teeth, does hard food benefit your teeth :)...? It doesn't. No different w/ dogs. |
If you really want him to eat kibble try soaking it in water. Maybe the kibble is too hard for his little teeth. |
thats what i did for Finster..we have a Keurig with a hot water dispenser.. i would measure out kibble and add hot water..took a few min to soften..then added wet food for flavor..being that his molars didnt come in yet.. he ate it fine.. now he loves chewing the kibble at 13 weeks.. i also put the kibble into a coffee grinder and made it powdery and added water..was kinda messy in the grinder but worked fine.. |
2 Attachment(s) Well I figured out how to get him to eat his kibble. I mix the mashed up wet with water and milk replacer and then add kibble to make it soup-like. Let it soak for an hour or so then feed him. He scarfs it all down. I'll try to pics again, I think they were to big or something last time. Attachment 405213 Attachment 405214 |
I would measure out the kibble then put it in a plastic sandwich baggie, place the Baggie on counter and crushed it by using my hammer :) I practically made it powder then added some warm wet food and she loved it. I loved the puppy days :) |
Congrats on your new puppy! |
