New here Hey everybody! My name is Brittany and I just acquired a 2 year old yorkie. I've wanted one for as long as I can remember so I am very excited. Her name is Sophie. We got her from a friend of ours who moved to an area where they couldn't keep her anymore, so they asked if we would take her. We've watched her before when they've gone out of town and fell in love with her then. She is an awesome dog. I did have a question for everybody, though. Her hair is hanging down in her eyes and it's driving me crazy. I won't be able to get her into the groomers for a few weeks, but until then how can I get it out of her eyes WITHOUT cutting it? Thanks! |
get some sort of an elastic and make her a top knot. I think there are places on this board that shows how to do it. I would wash her little face with a wash cloth then go to it |
Welcome to YT and congrats to your new family member, Sophie. You can go to a CVS or Rite-aid, In section where they sell hair accessories for children, buy tiny rubber bands that do not damage hair. Pull up all her hair that hangs in her eyes and secure it with one of these rubber bands. It may not be an easy task lol. I just got them myself lol, trying to grow out lil boys hair for a top knot, depending on the thinness or thickness of her hair, you may have to twist the rubber band 3 times, for me 2 times is not enough, he keeps getting them out, his hair is on the thin side. Or you can buy baby barrettes if she will keep them in. |

Amazon also sells bows/rubberbands. Depending how long her hair is, there's a member here that sells BEAUTIFUL bows I've been eyeing but I haven't bought yet. |
I use either a band or a tiny hair claw. |
Congrats on your family member! My 17 year old daughter is a pro at pulling up our Yorkie's hair and putting in a top knot. She uses little bands that were used for a friend who had braces and when she got them off she gave them to us. I would make a top knot or I would wash their face and hair on top of their head and start combing it to the side. I do that with Teek when my daughter isn't here to pull it up into a top knot for me and it has come out. She has gotten so that she can put it up and it stays for several days. It just takes practice but he will sit there and let her do it and he just doesn't let me work with it like that. Good luck and enjoy your Sophie! |
Be careful not to get the topknot too tight. The vet warned me about it the first time he saw Pixie. My moms yorkie lost a small patch of hair that never grew back from a too tight topknot. It cuts off the circulation. |
Today I tried the tiny hair claw that Wylie's Mom uses, thank you Ann, works great, he's had it in all day. 2 years ago I actually got them for myself, then found they were to small, so I have a couple of cards, they will be used now lol. |

I keep Lilahs hair in a top knot and really like it that way, her hair is long enough that even when it is down it will mostly lay back (there is a little bit at the eyebrow line that is growing out still from me letting it get damaged that poofs out kinda silly) you should google yorkie top knots- the show coats with top knots are just breath taking! A lot of people opt for the puppy cut and j totally get it but I am enamoured with that show coat style and you might be too :rose: |
