New barking issues Well we have come a LONG way since my first post on here and little Jakey is doing great with his training and dominance issues. People who read my first post on here about two months ago will know we had some quite serious dominance issues and training issues with Jake and got in a behavioural specialist on the suggestion of many people on here (again cannot thank you guys enough!!!!) and he has come on leaps and bounds from where we were with him. But I just wanted some suggestions from people on here as they were so helpful before. Jake has always been a noisy little guy, he is vocal about everything that's just how he is but now he has started barking in the middle of the night, every night for about 2-3 hours. My dog Bella now lives with us and they sleep together as they are inseparable and she would normally bark is something had startled her in the night but she doesn't make a noise. We were just wondering if he's just trying to get our attention but he has had the new boundaries in place now for two months now and this has never been a problem. As I say he is a noisy little guy during the day but that's just his personality, I was just wondering if anyone could give us a little advice before we get the specialist out again (as he is costly) and every little bit of advice is helpful :) Thanks again :) |
How long has it been since he started barking in the middle of the night? Is it usually around the same time or random? Where do they sleep? Other than Bella living with you guys now, has anything else change? Magnus/Zoey are like Bella and won't make a noise unless something startles them. However! There are nights where they hear something (fox howling, sirens in the distance) in the middle of the night that's really so faint that you'd probably won't notice while sleeping. Unfortunately, I'm a very light sleeper so that sort of thing usually wakes me up as well which is why I know that's what they're barking at. Even the slightest change can make a big difference to them... |

Jake has been doing this now for maybe two and a half weeks, pretty much every night and always at around 2 or 3 in the morning. Nothing has changed at all since this has started happening and he didn't do this when he first got his new boundaries put in place over two months ago. Everything is exactly the same which is why it is so strange.. |

I know we have deer/fox/etc passing by our patio/backyard area from time to time. If it seems like it happens often, I drape a small blanket over the gate so they can't see the window and it's makes their room darker. I also have a pee pad in their "room" since they don't have access to go outside to potty in the middle of the night. The only other time they'd bark is b/c they're thirsty. So I leave water in their room as well. |
Have you tried the bark genie yet? Many here have had great success w/ it... |
