brushie brushie brushie ok so greenies are out big time! that leaves me the question of actually brushing her teeth myself. as i use baby tooth brushes for Crowley my hedgehog, softer bristles so as not to upset her quills but still clean them and her skin, can i use the same kind on the puppies teeth? i buy them in bulk so i have 100s of them lying around. also what do i use for toothpaste? do i need toothpaste? my other dogs would not let me near them with the paste so i just brushed their teeth really well with the brush and just kept a close eye out for any decay. i know they make it for dogs? do you have a suggested brand? also how often should i brush puppy's teeth? my other dogs got a full jaw inspection and a brushing once every two weeks, but yorkies do have smaller teeth and i'd be worried they would chip a tooth on something since they have tiny teeth. |
First, human toothpaste is on option. It will make you dog ill, and I believe it can be toxic to dogs. There is dog toothpaste out there as well a very small dog toothbrushes. There are also dog toothbrushes that fit over your finger. I read here the other day that someone uses medical tape wrapped around finger to brush. The tape has a texture that helps to remove stuff. Good luck. Yorkie teeth overlap, crowd in and do all kinds of things that require careful attention. My DH brushes Dinky's teeth every night without fail and we use the additive to water. Still he had to have 8 teeth out on the last cleaning. We use the same additive now, but it is stronger and goes right onto his teeth. |
dinkster is that leba lll ? |
Someone mentioned using a gauze wrapped around their finger instead of toothbrush. I use the CET toothpaste as well as Tropiclean teeth gel remove. I tried using the toothbrush, fingerbrush, and the gauze method and it seems like the gauze works out the best for me. Both Magnus/Zoey were more tolerant when I use my finger. |
