Which Vaccines do your Adult Yorkies get? I'm asking because my vet is telling me Bentley is due for the following: Bordetella/adeno Canine influenza And how often do you guys do the "K9 distemper/adeno/parvo antibody test" and "Fecal test"?? Bentley is 2 years old and I'm just wondering which vaccines I need to give him  |
ZoE just went for her annual checkup a few weeks ago, and had her heartworm test and rabies shot at that time. I take her back this Friday for her DHPP shot (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo and Parainfluenza). I don't give bordetella or lepto, or any other non-core vaccines. |
They need blood work and a fecal yearly. You can do distemper and Pavo every 5 or 3 years. |
TBH, I'm one of those that don't give adult dogs yearly vax. I only did rabies bc it was required by law. When we get in a new foster, we have to give a full round of vax, unless the previous owner had everything UTD, which was rare. |
The core vaccines are rabies, distemper, and parvo -- the rest are NON-CORE vaccines and are often not necessary. I never get the bordetella vax. Here is the vax schedule info: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-overview.html After a dog is 5-7 yrs old or so, many people are electing to no longer get the parvo or distemper vaccines as at that point, they pretty much have lifetime immunity, as evidenced by the DOI studies. |
None, I do the initial puppy vaccines when puppy and then never again other than Rabies vaccine which is law. Vaccines are supposed to keep a dog immune for at least 7 yrs so I feel they are not necessary. |

My dog goes many places and goes to a groomer so I get bordatella. I also get Lepto because it is in my area and a very scary disease. |
I'm PRETTY sure Cricket gets everything except leptospirosis. My vet didn't want to risk it with her liver shunt issue. My mom and dad have two bigger dogs ( Bassett Hound and Golden Retriever) and they get leptosporosis vaccines. |
My girl's get their Core Vac's and Rabies every 3 yrs. BUT I do take my girl's to the Vet every 6 months for a check up and a full complete blood pannel. (This is something I have alway's done.) |
Mine get only Rabies and Parvo every 3 years after all the puppy shots. I always have their blood checked to see if they need the others. One is 10 yr. one 8 yr. and one 3 yr. and so far they are still good. |
Rasta will only get Rabies from now on since all his puppy shots have been completed. Same for our new pup. |

I groom my own and luckily we have MIL to watch them when we go on vacation so that is another reason why I don't do yearly or every 3 years vax. |

Yearly vaccines are a total crock after 1 year old. The only ones "needed" yearly (if you so choose to do them) would be the optional non-core lepto, bordatella, etc or else they don't work. But otherwise AAHA protocol is every 3-5 years for distemper/parvo after 1 year old. Jackson is 6 1/2 and hasn't had distemper/parvo vaccine since he was 1. And fwiw, we go to dog parks, parks, vacations out of the state, etc. I may get him one more this year just kind of for "peace of mind" (I suppose?) since once he's over 7, I likely won't be getting him any more vaccines ever again. Oh we do get rabies every 3 years as per the law. I really wish they would change it to every 5 years though at least. |
