Reverse Sneezing Sometimes Chloe reverse sneezes and it's always really scary because it seems like she is gasping for air. Is this normal? |
It's hard to say without actually seeing and hearing in person. My boys dislike sneezing/reverse sneezing, so they panic, resist it, and sound like they are struggling. Some people cover the nose or blow into the nose to force them to swallow to end the sneezing. Here are videos in case you have not seen this thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...d-trachea.html |
I haven't had this with Sunni, but its super common in Shih Tzu's. The best thing I could do (because they would start to panic and it makes it worse) is to just gently rub the throat and chest..not too hard and say shhh, shhh….its ok..and they'd stop. Sometimes it would start again, right away but do the same thing. It happened to all 3 of my Shih's and they never had serious side effects or problems with their throats. I hate that sound! It is scary to hear but you just have to stay relaxed so the dog relaxes with you. I hope this helps..and I hope it is same with Yorkies. |
Are you sure it's reverse sneezing? They usually don't gasp for air with RS. |
Zippy has it, getting more rare that it occurs as he settles in to his home with us. His trigger is excitement with out an outlet. Gentle words and a soft touch ends it nearly immediately. I'm pretty sure if he sensed we got alarmed over it, it would last longer. With Zippy, it's actually a pretty cool sound! Like a high pitched honking goose. |
