how can I make potty training easy I'm looking for tips on potty training my puppy she is 12 weeks. I'm currently using pee pads and as expected she isn't bothered with them lol. Any advice is appreciated |
It's never really easy to potty train a dog but it's not as hard when you confine her to encourage her ability to control her body functions, keep her on a very regular schedule and never let her out of your sight for the next year at least unless she is safely confined so she cannot make a mistake and thus return to the scent of the crime. |

Thanks so much. She had an accident this morning and I kind of wiped it in her pee pad before I cleaned the floor she started sniffing around and even used the pad... twice so far.YAAAAY. |

First...you kinda have to decide early whether you want to use pads forever, or have her go outside only. Mine are pad trained and I'll never do it again...too many accidents and I think there is confusion for the dogs as to the fact that they can pee inside. I'd recommend you def read these links, they're awesome! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...ms-solved.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...info-pics.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...ebreaking.html |
Potty training is never easy. You have to make sure her space is pretty small and confined. When you see her go potty in the wrong place tell her no and when she goes in the right place lots of praise and a treat. After she wakes up take her straight to the potty pad pad and after eating and drinking do the same. |
Potty training is never easy but you can make it a smoother process by being consistent. Take your pup out after waking up from a nap, 15 mins after eating/drinking, and after playing. I've used the outdoor method for my larger breed dog but for my yorkies I use UGoDog and Fresh Patch indoor systems. We have lots of trees with berries that could be poisonous, flowers, hawks, etc. I'm not taking the chance for mine to grab anything and ingest it or for something to grab them. |
Crate train usually works great! We crate trained and our puppy and he got the hang of it in a few days. 1-2 weeks he mastered it. |
