Dog emergency kit????? I am in disbelief with myself, for yearssss that I have had dogs, Boating, camping traveled, vacationed with my babies I have never THOUGHT to have a doggie emergency kit. I have 2 vehicles, each vehicle has it’s own booster seat, doggie carrying bag, water / food bowls, paper towels, blankets, extra T-shirt, poop pick up bags. I am very overly protective, paranoid and watchful over my babies. Friends, family laugh when they see my basket of what-nots in my car or trunk. I tell them I am always prepared for whatever, the most important thing I do not have is a “Dog emergency kit” I don’t even have one in my house, now I am very paranoid, and upset with myself for never thinking of this…..So what do I need to put together for an emergency kit. I will go tomorrow to get items . I have to make up 3 kits.I saw Benadryl for bee stings, how much do you give for bee stings. In my back yard I have seen hornets or wasps coming out of holes in the dirt. I looked on line, it read ........ It is very easy to over dose a dog on Benadryl if you do not know the exact dose to give. I am "run to vet" momma, but thinking if I am at a park out of town until I can find a vet, I will use emergency knowledge. |
I had an incident with ZoE where she got stung at the dog park, and i flew around the corner to Meijer to buy Benadryl at their pharmacy dept. Since then, I have a first aid kit. In ZoE's first aid kit I have: antiseptic spray triple antiboitic ointment hydrocortisone cream saline solution gauze rolls gauze pads medical tape tweezers scissors gloves snap cold packs petclot pack hydrogen peroxide vaseline tourniquet thermometer eyedropper syringe popsicle sticks craft sticks towel/cloths hockey laces our vet info emergency vet info poison control # doseage card of meds...like ZoE can have 1/2 of a baby asprin, 1/2 a 25mg benadryl tablet. I wrote it out & put a card in there. I was worried in that in a panic, I wouldn't remember each doseage correctly. |
Kazzy what is a petclot kit? Sounds interesting. I also have in my kit - Vet wrap and a tensor bandage - And for hiking a portable travois. But I have big dogs too. |

You can also search "dog emergency kit" on amazon and get the pre-made kits! Or you can just use the list as reference to make your own. :) |

My concern is if I am out of town, not near my vet, I take a lot of 3 hour one way day trips in the summer, I never know where I will end up, so having an emergency vet # doesn't help me. My vet is a 24/7 365 day a year clinic, local is never a problem. Cody is new to country living, he sticks that lil nose in crevices only an ant can get into. Last year I was right on top of him in my back yard, I have an area that is very rocky he was sniffing at a hole, just as I bent to look to see what he was sniffing something tiny popped out lol, it was so dang fast I couldn't tell what the heck it was, Cody jumped back lol, he is one curious little country boy . Forhim I may need that emergency kit. Thanks for all that information. |

You're lucky your local is open all the time. ZoE's vet is the only vet in his practice, so when he's closed,, or on vacation, and its an emergency, we head to the ER vet. |
