8 week old pup My wee pup was sick this morning, he was last fed last night at 9pm and he sleeps through the night in his bed, he woke up this morning 6am and was sick.... I fed him and it stopped... I am feeding him half a pouch of pedigree chum 4 times a day, is this enough? |
I'd keep a very, VERY close eye on this newborn pup bc he is so young and vulnerable. Puppies can die quickly at this age when they get sick w/ vomiting, just fyi. Btw, welcome to YT...wish it was under better circumstances. :) |
Anything with such a young puppy is cause for concern. If the bile was frothy yellow I would suspect it is just acid and not a cause for concern. This can be remedied by feeding earlier. Unlike humans, dogs create acid in their stomach in anticipation of eating and if food does not come quickly they must rid the stomach of the acid. Even if it was actual vomit and it was a one time episode and he is eating, drinking, not lethargic and his stools are solid I would just watch him closely. Don't know what dog foods are available in Scotland, but Pedigree is probably not the best you can get. Look for a food with no corn, no wheat, no soy and no by-products and lists a named protein source like chicken or turkey as the first ingredient (meat is a generic term and could mean anything like euthanized animals). Also a dry food is better for their stools and teeth. As far as quantity I would go with the recommendations on the packaging and leave out a high quality dry food and hopefully, he will change over to that slowly on his own. |
I think Royal Canin is easily available all over Europe.....excellent!....this young baby needs to be on puppy food....I would suggest Royal Canin canned puppy food with the Starter kibble to free feed 24/7, progressing to the Royal Canin Puppy/Chiot Yorkshire Terrier until 10 months old....my dogs are on Royal Canin and have been since the mid/late 70's, from breeding stock, diets are managed by the progressive nutritional formulas from estrus to whelping, to weaning babies, to managing adult active Yorkies, to seniors.....cradle to grave. They are in excellent condition. Good luck with this tiny youngster, who at this young age, is really not even weaned completely. You could even get some of Royal Canins puppy milk formula, and pour up a serving of that several times a day, especially last thing at night....puppy will go to sleep with a full tummy of nice warm puppy milk! I am soooo jealous, as I can not get that formula for MY babies here in the USA and it is EXCELLENT nutrition! Quote:

he needs to eat several times a day, the litle ones can drop there blood sugar, get some nutrical or some honey to give in case it goes down |
Nutri-Cal My vet suggested Nutri-Cal when mine was 8 weeks old. You must have something similar over there. Ask your vet. It helps with not eating enough and low blood sugar. I was told to do this 4x a day between meals. It also helped with MY anxiety. I knew for sure he had enough calories and nutrition. Also, if you do change foods remember to go slowly mixing in the new food a little at a time because that can upset their stomachs too. |
