Had to cancelled spay appointment So I got Duchess in June of last year. She is 3 years old and is not spayed. Before getting her spayed I wanted to make sure she was healthy and up to date with her shots. Except for a bout of colitis, the vet says she is very healthy. So 3 weeks ago, I made an appointment for her to be spayed. A week after I make the appointment, little miss thing goes into heat. She has had one heat since I got her in June 2014 in August. According to my calendar she should of been going into heat around January but she didn't so I'm like what the heck. At this point, I have no ideal when her next heat will be. So I make the appoint for the end of March. I called the vet to let them know she just went into heat and they told me I will now have to wait 3 months. They prefer to wait 3 months after her heat ends to do the spay. This sucks because Dutch loves going to the dog park. Oh well, I guess I have to be play the blocker a few more months. I wanted this to be done so I no longer had to worry when taking her around other dogs. Bummer. |
wow, a bummer for sure, that brings spaying into June or July, nice summer months. I am wondering why 3 months, just curious is all. |
I'm not sure why. I didn't have time to ask her as I am at work. |
Ack, what a bummer...esp when you just want to get 'er done! Hang in there. |
Yeah, going thru heats are annoying. And you have to keep diapers on them or make sure they keep themselves clean. And then people with white shirts always want to pick them up. LOL Spaying Uni was the best decision I ever made. Is there another vet that you like that you can ask if they can do it sooner? Or find out the reason for the wait? |

I like the vet that she is going too now so far so I will stick with her. I just have to try my best to keep her clean. Fortunately she only has 3 places she really likes to sleep. I put down a pad with a blankie that I don't care about to much. Diapers come off in lest then 2 minutes. |
Trinket is almost 10 1/2 months old and I am not sure she has had a heat yet. I have only had one other intact female which is a 2 lb smooth coat Chihuahua and it was obvious when she went into heat. There have been a few times I have smelled blood when near her but never saw it or noticed swelling or that behavior when in heat? She is being spayed tomorrow so I am hoping if she was in a heat cycle it was at least 3 months ago :/ |
