Stroller question? Hello all! Last weekend, my family and I took Cricket on a car trip to visit some family. She did good in the car, once she got over the excitement. I had suggested something to my mom awhile back about getting a stroller for Cricket and she thought I was CRAZY! Anyway, when we got home. She actually said to me, "Megan, maybe you should invest in a stroller." My parents and I want her to be a good traveling dog so here's my question........ With Cricket being almost two, am I too late to get her used to one? She is used to being enclosed in a little crate when I have to leave her. She doesn't mind being in her crate, but I haven't ever tried a stroller. Any words of advice on getting her used to one? Thanks! |
My stroller has a strap I can hook to the harness and can leave it open. |
You are not too late to get her used to it. . . I have the Dogger and oet gear no zip. . . Both have teathers to make sure they don't jump out. Sometimes I keep it open and sometimes it is closed. Set it up in your house and put a blanket and toy she likes in it. Then put her in for a few mins. See how she does. Don't wheel it. Do it a few times. She should be ok. . |
She will do fine and when she finds out she can go more places with you she will love it. When I bought mine I bought a colour that would not attrack attention so when we went into stores that are not so pet friendly we would be ok. I would put all the screens up and put a small baby blanket over the front Bella could still see me from all the back screens and people thought she was a baby sleeping. One day a lady said to her noisy little boy shh the baby is sleeping I just smiled . I only paid 35 for mine on amazon because it was an off tan colour. |
I actually bought mine for my Chi but she never really liked it. Then came Hannah and she loves it. Snacks and toys helped her understand that it was hers. I used it a lot when she was a pup. I moved her from room to room with me so she was always close. Now I leave it open by my bed and she uses her stairs to get in and out of it. I noticed that once I started pushing her to places that she was not normally allowed (like the porch) she liked it even more. I would not use it to replace a crate while your not home nor would I make her stay in it if she cries too much. You don't want her to feel like she's being punished. Make it fun for her and in time I think she'll like it. I also used to slide my hand in it and give Hannah lots of tummy rubs. She still jumps in it and rolls right over! Oh and my DH along with others thought I'd lost it at first until they saw the many uses for it! |
Lola was about 8 months when I bought her stroller. I usually leave it unzipped but she's ok with it being zipped and even covered with a blanket. She's never been crate trained, but she's willing to deal with just about anything to be out with me. Sometimes she'll scratch the mesh when she gets excited or fed up with being closed in. The stroller really is useful, I also take it to my aunt's house to use like a high chair because my cousin's dogs can't be trusted with Lola. When she gets tired of being held she'll climb towards the stroller. She really loves her stroller, if I bring it in the house she wants to get in, she also wants to get in any toy or baby strollers she sees. I have the cheap pet gear one from ebay, I love it but wish I'd gone with a more neutral color. Mine is blue, next one will be black. I've been using it for 1 1/2 years with no problems. The only downside is it doesn't have a tether, so I pulled the parcel board out of the bottom, drilled a hole, and made my own. |
Thank you everyone for your responses. I have searched this forum for pet strollers and have read all the topics posted. I feel like I have LOOKED at several online and the one I keep coming back to is the petzip Monogram stroller in black. I have seen the pictures of the tan one on here and of all the reviews I have read about it, I like the fact that it has a tether in it to hold Cricket in. cricket does weigh around 8 ( maybe 9 lbs) now, but with her being the only one in it, I think it will work. any other reviews on this stroller? I would greatly appreciate it! :D Thanks! |
