What do you guys think about this fish oil? https://www.ascentahealth.com/produc...canine-omega3/ Canine Omega 3 (6.8 Fluid Ounces Liquid) by Ascenta Health at the Vitamin Shoppe Some people I know have been raving about it. Was wondering what you guys think? I noticed on the Ascenta website it says there's sunflower oil inside but on VitaminShoppe there's no sunflower oil. Not sure which is accurate. I do like that you can check the purity of the fish oil, though. |
It looks like a very decent oil, but my fave is still Ark Naturals Royal Coat....I like that it already has the necessary Vit E in it. :) |
I just read an article on the same benefits available with Cocont oil. Its supposed to be great for delicate skin, and has antibacterial properties in it. I'm just not sure exactly how to incorporate it into their diet. |

Thats how I give Sunni the Coconut oil. I take it too, but can't have it plain, lol. I mix the puppies into her food. I'll have to look into the fish oil. I do give my dogs vitamins I got from the vet, but never checked to see if there is fish oil in it already..I'll have to do that! |
It looks like a very decent oil, but my fave is still Ark Naturals Royal Coat....I like that it already has the necessary Vit E in it. :) Do you give it to your little ones as is (and if so, do they seem to like taste) or mixed w/food? I'd like to add this to Piper's diet in order to keep her coat nice. Also, in reading the directions, it says to double dose for first month then go to regular dose for maintenance. Do you agree with that? Thank you always for invaluable advice! |
Thanks for the info on omega 3. It has recently been prescribed for my Bailey, and I wasn't looking forward to the smell of cod liver oil! I had that as a child... yuck! I will try coconut oil... love the smell. For my 8lb'er I will try a teaspoon to start and go up to a tablespoon. Anyone know how much is too much?? Appreciate any input here:) |

I use coconut oil too, love it for my yorkies. |
The orthopedic surgeon suggested fish oil for Maggie with at least 200 EPA in it. EPA is an omega-3 fatty acid found in high quality fish oil (She said). She recommended Nordic Naturals which I just ordered from Amazon. I have Prime and it was the cheapest I could find. It has good reviews and is made from anchovies and sardines. |

I use coconut oil and my dogs love it. |
Could you post some of the brands of coconut oil you use. I have been thinking about getting some but didn't know were to start. |
We tried Ark Naturals and didn't see a difference in Uni's coat. Also the fish smell was really hard on bf and he refused to give her kisses so we stopped. The fish smell didn't bother me as much, but I am used to all kinds of seafood smells since I love seafood, but for "normal" people LOL it needs getting used to. We also give CO but not on a daily basis. Just as an occasional treat. There are tons of good brands out there. Just look for organic virgin CO. |
I do not have experience with that one but it looks like an ok fish oil. I saw that it does have the vitamin e included and that's good since dogs need the vitamin e to absorb the oil. I give my furbabies the nordic naturals omega 3 oil which also has the vitamin e. |
I was at the vet today with Gracie and asked about her coat.....I have been giving her coconut oil but was told that although it's super for their insides that it doesn't reach their coats. The vet said plain old vegetable oil is best mixed in her food. |
Regular vegetable oil is a different kind of fat and not healthy at all. I would not give my dogs vegetable oil. |
