Interceptor is back!
 
I just got home from taking ZoE to the vet for her annual exam, heartworm test, rabies shot, and dog license, and they asked if I wanted to go back to Interceptor or stay on Sentinel. They just received their first shipment of Interceptor yesterday.

I'm glad we have more choices in what we choose to give our dogs. For me personally, I want as few chemicals as possible, so I opted to go with Interceptor.

ZoE has an absolutely amazing vet that is all about education and serving his client's needs. He never pushes anything on us. ZoE was also due for her DHPP shot today, but he knows I won't give two shots on the same day, so I paid for it today as part of my office visit, and then just have to stop back in next month and they'll give her the shot, with no additional office charge.

I just googled and bunch of articles showed up. This is one of them. It's really coming back!!!! I'm so excited!

I know! I couldn't believe it either! But I have two boxes sitting right in front of me! So nice to have another option.

Curious how is Interceptor better than Sentinel?

Better is subjective.

Sentinel has a flea cycle control element to it that Interceptor does not. Sentinel Spectrum has tapeworm control that regular Sentinel and Interceptor do not.

Personally, I am not interested in treating for things I have never had an issue with; fleas & tapeworms. For ZoE, I chose the heartworm medicine with the least extra additives.

Did you guys like Interceptor more than Heartgard? Heartgard seems to be working okay but I just don't like the huge dosage for small dogs.

Personally, I do, but I have no experience with Heartgard.

I have used Interceptor for the past twenty-five years, other than the last couple of years with Sentinel. I have never had any issue with it, and it is highly regarded by ZoE's vet for puppies and small breed dogs. (He may also like it for large breed but I couldn't say as he never mentioned it and I never asked as Ive never had a large breed dog).

If Interceptor and Sentinel where not available I would definitely use regular Heartgard, before ever choosing Sentinel Spectrum, or Heartgard Plus. I don't want extra pesticides. To me it's the equivalent of taking a multi-symptom Nyquil type product when you just have a cough. If I just have a cough I want a cough syrup and that's it. I don't want to treat the sniffling, sneezing, aching, stuffy head, stuff I don't have.

Like I said before, I'm happy we have more of a selection to meet our various needs.

:thumbup:

The topical med (I use advantix) already has the flea/tick control so I don't see any reason to put more into my furbutts body.

I forget, isn't Interceptor tiny and hard to handle? Seems like I dropped more than one and had trouble finding them. Tibbe eats his Heartgard broke into two bites so we'll likely stick with it.

It's a small pill about the size of a low dose aspirin. Easy to swollow...or easy to make swallow in ZoE's case as she never willing takes any meds.

Today the vet gave her Metacam before her rabies shot. He said most dogs lick it right out of the non-needle syringe thing...but not Zo :rolleyes: it took the old open mouth, squirt in back of mouth, and hold mouth shut till she swallowed approach. Then she glared at the vet for a second or two, while she licked her tongue with a clear "yuck!" look, then proceeded to give him kisses, which made him laugh.

Sounds like a typical Yorkie taking their medicine! The stinkeye absolutely pierces your skin while you're holding their mouths shut and right after you let go. I've got stinkeye scars!
