Picking up puppies on Sunday 2 Attachment(s) We're picking up the puppies on Sunday. Any words of wisdom for the 4 hr drive home? |
Paper towels, diaper wipes and a small trash bag, just in case. A secure crate is much safer than pups in laps and it contains carsickness oopsies better than your lap, too. If you need to stop on the way for a puppy potty break, lay an old sheet on the ground so they don't have to touch where another animal may have been. If you go to a thrift store, you can get old sheets cheap and not feel badly if you choose to toss it rather than wash it. Remember to take deep breaths and remain calm, they will feed off your behavior. If you're calm, they have a better chance of remaining calm and quiet. I hope the breeder has introduced them to crates and cars, if not, just breath, be matter of fact - don't give in to hysterics. You may comfort them, of course, but remain firm so you don't start a bad habit of them training you. (they'll do enough of that later). ;) Oh, and LOTS of pictures. :) |
Congrats on the new pups good advice above, I would also get a puppy diaper, just about every pup I have brought home has had and accident in the car and most have been messy poops, and thrown up as well. All were dogs that grew into car loving pups with no problems, but LOL there is something about that first drive home that upsets their stomachs. It sounds like someone else is going with you that helps a lot, and of a few stops along the way will help. Cute pups how old? |
I keep some of those little bags that come in a roll to pick up poop in the car. I use them for everything. Makes a great little trash bag, besides what they were intended for. :) |

Great advise Congratulations on your puppies, they are just beautiful. |
Grats on your new furbabies |
They will be 8 weeks old tomorrow. |
I would make sure that I had nutrical as well. I would give them just a little before the ride home. The others have given good advice. I would make sure you have a blanket to keep them warm as well. |
congrats on your babies...wooohoooooo they are beautiful!!!! Great advice, I would just add one more thing, being its a 4 hour ride, make sure you stop for pee breaks... good luck:) |
