It's very important people realize whether or not or looking for a show dog or just a pet it is very important to make sure you are getting a pup from a reputable breeder. A reputable breeder will only breed to better the breed meaning they will only breed perfect examples of the breed and breed to the standard. Whether docking tails is right or wrong it is still the standard and until that changes they will dock tails. Reputable breeders know there lines way back and know that they are free from genetic issues and they work hard to keep it thatv way when other breeders don't. The best thing for this breed is to buy from reputable breeders who are doing good by the breed not the byb or puppy mills. If we continue to buy from bad breeders eventually this breed is not going to look anything like they are supposed to and we are just going to continue to be over run with yorkies with serious genetic issues. |

Here in the UK, tail docking has been outlawed except for exceptional circumstances. Tail docking was outlawed as a result of people like me who did not agree with mutilation in the name of conformity. My breeder is an international show judge, a Crufts show judge and a breeder with over 30 years experience. She is reputable as are other breeders outside of the UK who choose to not dock tails. A docked tail is a FALSE standard because it has not occurred without forced intervention separate to genetics. Ears which stand down are not breed standard, either, but I hope no one here condones ear cropping on YT's on this basis. You are entitled to your opinion, as always. |

I don't think you said how old the puppy is, to me when buying a puppy that is important because until they are at least eight weeks old it's hard to tell much about how they will look. Personally I like upright ears and would probably only buy a puppy if their ears are up, but I would not care if the mother's were. Upright ears is not a sign of a purebred, my pup Lola is mix but has very perky ears, while many purebreds don't. I love the fact that this lady did not dock the tails, in a way it tells me she may care more about the dogs than the money she will make off them. If you are not showing a dog in the US most tails will be docked but other than that it does not matter. The tide is turning and if a poll was taken I bet more people would vote for tails. A parti is not a traditional colored yorkie would not be able to be shown in a AKC show but personally I love that look, not sure how they evolved but I would purchase one if I thought it was cute and healthy in a heartbeat. There was a time I was a bit like your friend and still am in some ways, I like a standard size yorkie between about 4.5 lbs to 7. I don't like a sooty head or muzzle or an orangy head or muzzle, I don't like a thick wooly coat, a very long muzzle or an extremely smushed in muzzle, that some refer to babydoll faces. But now that I have a mix I love how she looks which Is like a puffier yorkie (she's mixed with pom) and she has the most amazing tail which has turned out to be one of her best features. Funny thing though when I first got her my husband and I were kind of disappointed that she had one, and now LOL I trimmed it recently and he had a fit. |

I believe you are confusing reputable breeders with show breeders, but then I also know there are very few breeders that will ever meet your standards |

hahaha! If I trimmed Teddy's tail, I wonder if it or his legs would be skinnier. I wouldn't dare try, though. He has a beautiful plume! |
